its former president, peter liacouras has died. he passed away yesterday after a long illness. he was 85. tonight vernon odom looks at the liacouras era on north broad street. >> he put temple university literally on the map as a destination. >> reporter: from student entries liacouras chose the now iconic big t which became the university's insignia worldwide. dating back to the early 70's when he headed up the law school through his 18 years as president, peter liacouras was the heart and soul of this school's transition from a local commuter school to a research institution with international reach. encouraging sports and culture to make temple a center for the entire community. that was the genesis of the liacouras center on broad street. >> he will the idea that if you bring people to main campus, then temple university will sell itself, temple academics will sell themselves. >> reporter: as the student body grew by leaps and bounds, becoming more diverse peter liacouras led the way from the president's perch but first as a law school professor. >> we marched together the
