. >> joining us now is minister dominique alexander, president and founder of next generation actionetwork one of the organizers of the dallas protest. reverend, good to have you here. >> glad to be here. >> how are you feeling? >> you know, it was -- we've been protesting for some time here in dallas and throughout the country. you know, never in our wildest dreams like i've said before that we'd think that you know, in our efforts to save lives will you know be this tragedy will come towards us. you know, but we've been saying for years now that the issues are issues in our country. and we've been asking people at the federal, state level and county and city to address these issues so that these issues don't peak up to it. many people have different ways that they channel hurt. and we know them and until our government addresses these issues, the sad thing is that we're going to continue to have these issues and we need to to address them. >> did friday night change anything? >> it didn't change anything because we've been saying it so long. we've been talking about these issues an

joining me now is dominique alexander, the president and founder of next generation action network. of the organizers of yesterday's protest. mr. alexander, thank you so much for being with me. >> thank you for having me. >> let's start by talking about the purpose of the protest that you organized. what was it? >> well, the purpose of the protest was i was traveling to baton rouge, louisiana, and met with the family of alton sterling. and we organized this protest because we know that in the city of dallas, we have some alton sterlings. we have some clinton allen's, in many cases. here in the city of dallas, there has not been an officer indicted in over 40 years in an officer fatal shooting. so we have these type of cases. we have them in oklahoma city, where charles pettit jr. we have many cases in these instance, and we wanted to come out and stand up and fight for justice. and then while we was planning this in the last few hours, we hear of the death of philando castile. so people are tired, and enough is enough. and we wanted to come out to say and stand with the united state

i want to bring in dominique alexander now. founder of next generation action network.is the group that organized last night's protest here in dallas. there had been some questions about precisely who it was that organized the protest. was it just your group alone. >> it was our organization. we collaborated with other activists in the community. but our organization took on the obligation to organize this protest within 24 hours. >> what was the purpose of the protest? >> the purpose was a protest to come together to talk about the national argument of what's going on with police brutality in america. it was to respond to alton sterling and within hours later of us announcing it was to respond to minnesota shooting. an officer has not been indicted for over 40 years in the city of dallas. so it was to talk about that we have our alton sterlings here in dallas. enough is enough. we need some concrete change when it comes to police brutality. >> the man that police say reeked the havoc here and killed those officers. did you know him? did you know of him? >> i never met

. >> and joining me now is minister dominique alexander, president and founder of next generation action. one of the organizers of thursday's protest here in dallas. it is obvious that for five families and for people who knew the victims and those who are injured, they are mourning. but for everyone who is here. they have been through a trauma. >> yes, ma'am. yes, ma'am. >> what are you hearing from the people who you know who were there as you were? >> well the community is mourning and this is just not -- for the police officers. there was over 2,000 police officers here that have protested time after time after time in dallas, texas and nothing like this have ever occurred. so it is very traumatic towards them and the situation to, you know, something that happened like that in their city. and we came out there to eliminate hate. we came out there to stand up against violence in america and not to have a situation like that and this incident happened. but, you know, we definitely need counseling for the protesters and as well as the community because the community is very traumatized
