matt finn has the latest joining us now from st. paul, minnesota. hi, matt. >> good afternoon, elizabeth. much more information coming out this afternoon in this case. we're starting to hear much more about the officer's side of the story. by and large up to this point we had only heard the girlfriend's account, mostly due to that facebook video that many of us have seen over and over again. a short while ago i spoke to the officer's attorney tom kelly. he says that not only did the officer react to the presence of a gun, he tells us that kelly -- castile that day failed to comply with a do not move order. officer yanez ultimately told a still do not move and that he failed to comply with that order and that there was apparently a visible gun. we've also went back and looked at the face book video and there are certain freeze frames that mighting indicate a gun on castile's lap. i spoke to the attorney of the officer and said it would not be far fetched to assume that might well be the gun in his lap because the client, the aucheof responded to the p

matt finn on scene. much of the protests across the nation here last night were peaceful but police did fight with demonstrators at a rally in phoenix. look. >> what do weap want? >>us. >> officers used pepper spray and tear gas to clear out the protesters. officials say they also closed the freeway ramps there to stop demonstrators from marching into a stretch of the interstate. garrett tenny has more on the protests. i understand the black lives matter group was against the protest. >> yes, that's right, phoenix mayor, the police chief and the arizona chapter of black lives matter asked organizers to delay the protest out of respect for those killed in dallas but the local activists behind the protest went ahead. local reports say by the end of the night, six people were injured and three people were arrested after throwing rocks at officers. as you mentioned, though, phoenix, it stands apart from what we've seen across the rest of the country. this is the second consecutive day of protests over police

fox news correspondent matt finn is live in chicago. matt? >> good evening, greta., over the past year, right here "on the record," we have reported extensively about the allegations against chicago's police officers from misconduct all the way up to murder. we have seen the dash cam videos over and over again. and in some instances, those officers were fired or will stand before a judge. tonight, the head of one of america's toughest jails wants us to see the other side. and that is what his guys are up against every day on the streets of chicago and in the prisons. in one of these videos, a female officer is punched in the face after opening a cell door. in another video, a prisoner in the bottom right hand corner appears to take advantage of the uproar in the jail house. he appears to time his knockout punch to the officer's face so that no one else sees it the officer goes fly flies to the ground. another video the corrections officer is punched over and over again in the face. he finally starts to defend himself before help rushes n the cook county sheriff is v

that's where we find matt finn. >> reporter: hi. it is day five in front of the governor's mansion. there are about a dozen protesters out here expressing why they are upset. it was a much different scene last night into the early morning hours of today. hundreds of protesters stormed interstate 94 and shut it down in both directions. it created a traffic nightmare in the area. around sunset protesters stormed the freeway and for hours police stood by and allowed them to demonstrate and chant and then things turned ugly as protesters threw bottles, commercial grade fireworks at offers. one officer had a bottle thrown at his face. they made over 100 arrests for riot and public nuisance. it started in downtown minneapolis but things got progressively worse. it is because of the incident on wednesday when a minnesota police officer shot and killed philando castile. many people saying it was a racial profile and racially motivated killing. we have spoken to the officer of that attorney who tems fox that the officer pulled the trigger and killed castile because he saw a visible gun on hi

and as correspondent matt finn reports, officials are working hard to figure out how to try to stop the bloodshed. >> reporter: chicago's staggering shooting and murder rate is now at a level not seen since the 1990s. someone is shot every two hours, a person murdered every ten hours. now comes the fourth of july weekend. statistically, one of the windy city's deadliest. chicago police is heavily beefing up its patrols with 5,000 officers hitting the streets and expressways with the help of state police and the fbi. cpd says ready-seeking active warrants are already under way and will continue through the weekend. officers by air, land, and boat will patrol areas typically considered safe, such as the navy pier and ballparks. the departments this weekend lock up repeat offenders who officers say will continue shooting, unless stopped. >> while we face historical challenges, including repeat offenders willing to use illegal guns to solve petty issues, make no mistake about it that cpd is using every tool in its arsenal to ensure the safety of all chicagoans. >> reporter: adding to the pe
