almost any outcome that we look at, the children are doing worse than children born to married parents. now, a big part of that is because the children born to married parents are born to highly educated parents who have a good item, good jobs, and there's a lot of economic stability in those parents. but even if you take account of all of that and you compare children with similar parents' background, you do find that there are these negative consequences. so i've recently written a big review article that looks at all these studies that we've amassed in the last 10-20 years that try to look at the causal effects of this father absence on children. and, again, there's the democrats and republicans, the liberals and the conservatives sort of disagree about whether this is all about income or whether it's also about something about the family structure. so i was trying to just look at studies that try to deal with this specific issue of is there causality here x. here's sort of the bottom line of that study. in terms of cognitive ability, the effects actually of father absence are prett
