starting the school year in stanford, liquor can no longer be served at undergraduate parties. reacting to the outcry over the brock turner sexual assault case, the university has tightened the rules when it comes to on-campus drinking. they are also banning undergrads from having any bottle of alcohol larger than 750 milliliters. critics, however say that the updated alcohol policy will actually put more students at risk. >> it will create an incentive for students to aggressively pre-game hard liquor in dorm rooms with the the doors closed. and so it allows the student who is are over 21 to possess alcohol in small bottles, but it does not limit the number of the small bottles. that presents an increased risk for sexual assaults and also an increased risk of alcohol poisoning. students are going to be reluctant to tell the authorities what is happening because they know they are violating a rule. >> reporter: stanford law professor michelle dobber has spearheaded that effort to recall the judge in the brock turner case who sentenced the former swimmer to just six months in ja

stanford undergraduate students returning this fall will no longer be able to drink hard alcohol at on campus parties. the new ban comes nearly five months after brock turner was convicted of sexual assault. the attack happened in january at a fra teternity party of cam. the ban could actually increase the number of sexual assaults on campus. >> it may have the unintended consequence of driving this behavior into dorm rooms with closed doors rather than in public and that students may have actually increased risk of sexual assault. >> she also said stanford's ban supports the idea that alcohol is to blame for sexual assault. according to court record, brock turner himself blamed his actions on bemidji drinking and party culture. >> students we talked to say they don't think the ban will make a difference. >> it's not hard alcohol, just generally intertwined with skrus the kind of college culture that we have now. >> a culture many believe the university needs to do more to change. under this new ban, any offendinging student could be sent to the dean or be removed from student housing.
