let's get to rudy giuliani and chris christie. what do we know about their meetings today and where they stand with donald trump right now, where his thinking is at about these two men? >> you know, poppy, there's probably no more interesting individuals right now than rudy giuliani and chris christie and what happens to them. you look over the course of the campaign, there have been no two advisers more loyal to the president-elect than rudy giuliani and chris christie. you could say, at least for a time after the president-elect's victory on november 8th, they were heading in divergent paths. chris christie, once the head of the transition team and no longer. chris christie's top allies, all senior positions on the transition team, they're all gone, as well. there is behind the scenes activity going on there, bad blood, questions about performance, some questions about perhaps some of the things that chris christie had done when he was a prosecutor in new jersey and a son-in-law of donald trump, as well. here's what we know. the

president-elect was asked as he met governor christie at the front door, if there was a place for chris christie in his administration. he replied, he is a very talented guy. read into whatever you'd like with that. before the meeting with governor christie, the president-elect did meet with rudy giuliani. he was asked if there was a potential spot as secretary of state for giuliani in a trump administration. he nodded and said, as well as other things, too. so very clear that rudy giuliani is certainly in consideration for a position inside a trump administration. whether or not it is secretary of state still seems to be an open question. to your point, chris christie, doesn't seem there is a lot there. there is back story. we've been talking about it today, about some of the tension that's been going on between chris christie and some of his advisers. donald trump, the transition team. donald trump's closest advisers. there is no question, chris christie has been on the outs with the transition operation over the course of the last seven or eight days. whether or not he is in line for anything

not good and has never been good since chris christie put his father in jail. . so when christie gets pushed out and half a dozen of his top lieutenants get pushed out in the transition, all fingers point to jared kushner. i think with really good reason. but the truth of the matter, like a lot of things we report, is that it's more complicated than that. that would have not have happened to christie and his people if, say, donald trump and his other top lieutenants didn't agree because they believe that chris christie has been disloyal to a degree, that after the "access hollywood" tape he was not out front and center for them. so there are lots of reasons within trump world for chris christie not to be their favorite person. so there are reasons. it is disorganized and in turmoil because, as one source said to me, who is involved in the transition, no one put a check into this whole thing because they didn't expect to win. >> what does it say about a trump administration, nia, that we're getting all these leaks? reporters are hearing these various turmoil repo

people that had been close to chris christie, that chris christie had brought -- mike rogers, the formerongressman, who had been leading the national security effort, is also out today. part of what is contributing to the chaos is a sense that we already had one team and have to build another one. charlie: what would you add to this overview? phil: mike is right. there is another power center, senator jeff sessions, one of the early endorsers and all the way through the general election. he is exerting a lot of influence in the process. he was at trump tower this week. his chief of staff has taken over the staff level after the transition. we are hearing sessions may be the defense secretary pick. his influence goes far beyond that. he is having a lot of say over who is being vetted for senior-level positions in the administration. we cannot underscore enough the role the family is playing. jared kushner, the husband of ivanka trump, a real estate developer also, is exerting tremendous authority over the process and having a lot of say over every single staff position. as are the other c
