a concept that is loosely defined or known as countering violent extremism, or cde for short. the united states has been needed with extremist political ideology and their violent manifestations since at least the rights of the ku klux klan and aftermath of the civil war. in some cases the threats are domestic. political radicals have been real and legal. president mckinley was assassinated by an anarchist extremes, and is in the lead to a nationwide crackdown on anyone who professed anarchist beliefs whether or not the actually represented a genuine violent threat to the public. it's only been since the mid-20th century that we've seen the federal government create entire bureaucratic structures designed to counter political ideologies that were viewed as a threat to the prevailing political and economic order. in many cases the employment of the course of the training military and federal law enforcement backed by legislation and the courts to harassharass, jail and even kild domestic political activists deemed the extremists, violent or otherwise. during world war ii and es
