golden globe win last night, seven wins with seven nominations, "la la land" was picture at the academy awards next month. this is exactly the kind of movie that the academy loves. it is a musical. it is brilliant. it is a masterpiece. and it is going the distance. now, just because it won the golden globes doesn't mean it's going to win the oscar. last year "the revenant" won best picture drama and "spotlight" won best picture at the academy awards. but in this case i'd say you can bet the house that "la la land" is going to win best picture at the oscars. >> one of the big surprises involved hbo. it had a bunch of nom iinations but walked away with nothing. what happened? >> other shows just took it. throws like atlanta and blackish and stuff like that. hbo usually knocks park but this just was not their year. >> scott, you mention "la la land." this movie came in with huge expeck factations and somehow md to exceed them. with so many quality films in the mix, how did they produce this landslide? >> here's what happened. when i saw this film last september, i was thinking this could be the t

a few hours away from that all-important reveal: which actors will be able to call themselves academy award nominees this year? here are a few things to keep an eye on as we wait for the announcements: first? at the golden globes, "moonlight" and "la la land" won best drama and best comedy, respectively, and both seem to be locks for best picture nominations, as well. however, there is room for 10 films in the category, and expect "lion," "arrival," and "manchester by the sea" to be among them. secondly? entertainment experts seem to unanimously agree that "la la land" star ryan gosling and "manchester by the sea" best actor nods, and other possibilities include andrew garfield, denzel washington, and viggo mortensen. and lastly?the best actress category is going to be an exciting one to watch.
