good afternoon, everybody, i'm larry beil. >> and i'm ama daetz.terday a man robbed a bank of america branch, crashed a stolen car and escaped in the santa cruz mountains. >> now he's stolen another car, this time an unmarked police vehicle. david louie has been following the story since it broke yesterday and joins us live. david, we understand a news conference just ended. what do we know? >> reporter: well, we just got briefed about some information that actually we knew more about. we actually broke the story on twitter at 2:00 this afternoon that it was an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. this stolen vehicle now means that the suspect, who's been wanted since yesterday's bank robbery, could be virtually anywhere beyond the bay area. he's had so many hours now, virtually 15 hours to make an escape and get far away from the bay area. it was not a sheriff's office vehicle, by the way, but the agency it belongs to no one is saying. the vehicle was stolen about 2:00 this morning shortly after deputies completed combing through the woods with dogs.

. >> and i'm larry beil. this began at 7:30 this morning.ook off on foot in redwood estates in the santa cruz mountains. this is a surveillance image of the suspect tweeted out of the suspect. >> david louie is joining us. david? >> reporter: just to the bend and south of me where i'm standing now in the little town of redwood estates, they are looking for a suspect who is involved in the bank robbery in sko scotts valley in santa cruz county. in santa clara county, that's where the suspect was last seen as he bailed out of his getaway car. police chased after him. an officer fired an unknown number of rounds but it's not known if the suspect was wounded. the suspect's white vehicle was found abandoned on highway 17. residents were told to shelter in place and schools in the areas were placed in lockdown and the search through the woods began. the chp and fremont police are also searching. here are details about the suspect getting away. >> there was a vehicle collision. the suspect's vehicle became disabled and he fled on foot. we have the
