nbc 10's pamela osborne is live at the scene.am, even police are recognizing how tragic this was so early in the new year. tell us. >> katy, they were. the victim here a 71-year-old man. they say he was retired military. he was likely just walking home tonight, when he was hit in the early hours of this morning. take a look. this is a gruesome scene. investigators still here on chew avenue piecing to the the evidence. a 25-year-old man is in police custody right now. here's what we know. at 1:40 this morning police were called to the area of 12th and chew when they got here, they found that 71-year-old dead in the street. police say the car that struck him, a mercury sable, was going eastbound on chew avenue. the impact was so severe that he was either thrown or dragged a block down away from where police believe he was actually hit. the driver attempted to flee the scene but crashed a short distance later into a fence. that's where police caught up with him. he was transported to the hospital to be treated for a broken leg. poli

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in washington with a preview of the march. pam? >> reporter: this is expected to be the single largest demonstration of protesters here in washington. 200,000 people are expected to attend and participate although the city is prepared up to 400,000 people. now we have some brand new video we'll show you of some of those demonstrators leaving 30th street station in philadelphia. the pennsylvania chapter tells us they are expecting anywhere from 12 to 20,000 people to travel to washington for the march here. the women and men who are participating represent more than 30 different groups. organizers say it's to send a bold message to president trump that women's rights are human rights and not just that, they are protesting for criminal justice reform, women's reproductive rights, lgbtq rights and equal pay. >> i think it means a lot to me to go see so many people who feel as strongly as i do that we have to stand up and we can't just let things be the way they are. >> reporter: the indigo girl singers will be here in attendance. i wa

nbc 10 pamela osborne live on scene in zionsville. >> at this point in time, the fire is under control. step out of the way and show you. you can see firefighters still there around one of those buildings. i want to show you some video from last night when this fire started. now, firefighters right now working to get those hot spots under control. there are sealed roofs on top of these greenhouses. during that fire, one of the roofers on top of the greenhouse collapsed actually covering some of the stuff that was below it so they have been unable to get that area wet.  so that brought in heavy equipment here to remove the steel roof so they can get water down on the areas to extinguish the remaining hot spots. that has been the biggest challenge for fire fighters

[ laughter ] >> especially in this business. that's what's happening this afternoon. we have a chance of electrical storms rain and wind. first the kpix 5 hi-def doppler. we have that first band of rain run through and a few tenths of an inch but that's about it now it's heading east fast with some cells in the east bay and down to the south bay. but aside from these two areas, you pull back and you can see that most of it is now headed out to the east. we get a chance to dry a little bit. this was just initial overrunning rain. it's kind of setting the stage for what happens later in the day and what happens later in the day is we get some strong cells coming down from the north. and these going to give us some rain. the wind, the potential for a thunderstorm

nbc10's pamela osborne joins us live. pam, crews have their work out out for them today. >> reporter: absolutely, rosemary, you can see a portion of brook road remains closed and will remain closed until further notice. it's a bit difficult to see from the ground and in the dark. take a look at this video from skyforce 10. you can get a better idea of how big that sinkhole actually is. and you can see how close the ground opened up to this home which was evacuated. yesterday, they started pumping the sinkhole with cement to stabilize the surrounding ground. a six-inch cast iron main broke so customers are without water. aqua crews did restore water stores but with a boil water advisory. customers are to continue to boil their water until further notice. one resident we spoke to yesterday said she's not taking any chances. >> i've got a lot of water. i'm not trusting the water out here no way. >> we're fingers crossed that nothing else is going to happen. >> reporter: and reps for aqua water said the crews poured concrete

. >> we continue our live team coverage with nbc10's pamela osborne is live outside of union station. not far from here. you talked to a group of students hoping to learn something by attending the ceremony tomorrow. tell us more about that, pamela. >> reporter: yeah, you know, it's no secret that donald trump and hillary clinton both had trouble securing the masses of millennial voters. and while there is such thing as being too young to vote, we found a group of young people who say it's never too soon to get involved in learning and understanding the political process of how it works. we sat down with a group of middle and high school age students from delaware who tell us they will be attending those inaugural activities. they tell me it's about being a part of history. it's a chance to meet with other people their age with an interest in politics. but most importantly, it's a chance for them to participate, even though this election, they weren't able to vote. >> better to engage now so you know everything for the future. >> reporter: and what is your hope, i guess? >> we have li

nbc 10 pamela osborne live at the scene. give us an update on what's happening there. >> reporter: yes, as you mentioned, firefighters have been here since last night at the farm. this is a greenhouse facility. very large property with many large buildings. you can see that from behind some of tv flashing lights there. the fire broke out several hours ago. we want to show you some video that we took overnight. this was an intense fire. several different departments across counties are responding. now, we aren't seeing any flames this morning, but firefighters on the scene tell me they are still working this. we're seeing quite a bit of smoke here. pulling up, we could see a lattla ladder that was extended up. we also pass add water tanker. trying to get more information for you this morning. we just got on scene a couple of minutes ago. as soon as we touch base with fire officials and get more information, we'll give you an update. see you in the next half hour. reporting live, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >>> 5:37. mild sta

nbc 10 pamela osborne live on the scene in scionsville. pam, tell us more about it. >> reporter: we are about a half mile away from where the fire was. i say was because the fire is now out. during the fire fight, the roof of one of the greenhouses collapsed. the roof is steel. when it came down, it covered some of the area of fire they couldn't reach. right now firefighters using heavy equipment to remove the roof and get the hot spots below it. this has been the biggest challenge. that have i been having tankers come in and out with additional water to help them fight the fire. several greenhouses on this property. firefighters did a very good job keeping the fire contained to one greenhouse. one is looking like a loss. another greenhouse just had minor damage. as to the cause that is yet to be determined. fire officials telling me this morning seems as though the fire may have started in a loading dock where there were plants and packaging waiting to be delivered to stores. what happens next, i can tell you a lot of these guys have been

nbc's pam osborn is gathering more evidence. what are you learning, pam? >> reporter: we did get some brand new information from police about those two robberies. the first victim, an 18-year-old woman was attacked just after midnight in the frankford section of philadelphia as she walked from the frankford l. she was right around pratt street. a man grabbed her and hit her in the head with a gun. three other men with the suspect started punching and kicking her as they demanded money. they took the victim's wallet before they took off from the scene. the victim walked herself to aria frankford hospital. around that time police were at aria toursdale hospital. they were called there after a 29-year-old man walked into the er with a gunshot wound. he was also robbed and attacked by three men on griscom street. that's not far from where police say the first attack took place. two of the suspects had handguns, a third was armed with a shotgun. the three suspects wore black masks, gloves and hooded sweatshirts, and they matched the description that the first f

let's check back in with pamela osborne live outside of the art museum. how are people take advantage of the nice temperatures. >> yeah. no wintry mix outside right now. the sun is peaking out of the clouds a little bit right now. have to tell you a little bit ago there were a few sprinkles outside but all of that has cleerd up and you can see people out and about enjoying this weather this morning a lot of people are taking advantage of this unseasonably warm weather. we saw people in shorts and shirts and we even saw a few people sweating this morning. we caught up with a pair of runners training now for the boston marathon. they say they have been out no matter what the conditions are getting ready for that race but they certainly are appreciating this nice little break in the weather. >> this is nice but we know it's going to get bad. >> enjoying it while you can. >> for sure. for sure. >> a lot of people doing that right now because as erica mentions conditions will be changing but for now, we got a little bit of sun and we got some warm weather. rep

. >>> nbc 10 pamela osborne following developments. joins us live from the scene. >> reporter: we are at emily and 26th street right now. going to step out of the way and point your attention to that mercedes vehicle right there. that is where the gunshot victim was found. now according to police, the victim got into an argument at a bar near 46th street and walnut. this was around 2:00 this morning. when the victim's friend found him, he was unresponsive. unresponsive put him in their car and drove him here to south philly. when they got here, they were unable to walk him up to talk to him. that's when they called police. the victim was rushed to the hospital and that's where they covered he had been shot in the chest. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. we know the police are in the area of walnut street right now checking surveillance cameras in the area in hopes of getting some more information about suspects or who they could be looking for in this case. reporting live now in south philly, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >>> see

i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >>> we are expecting the sun to come out later today. live look at cape may. what will it be like in your neighborhood? let's find out from krystal klei. >> yeah. this is why it is so important. depending where you have right now you're seeing sun or a blab ket of clouds. take a look. in new jersey we are seeing breaks of sun. i don't know if you can tell, clouds starting to build back and still a thick layer here. what we are going to see is some clouds through the early part of the afternoon. more sunshine across the board. we are at 47 in philadelphia right now. some of us in the low 50s here. the suburbs almost there. it is a very mild day for us especially the beginning of january. not going to see these much longer though. way cooler temperatures in store tonight and on into thursday. this shows off really well what i was explaining. notice this next layer of clouds is going to move on in. it is actually ahead of the cold front. once the front passes us we'll see the temperature drop off. so these 50s will peak in the next few hour
