dr. thomas sowell, you wrote this at the end of 2016.ge 86 is well past the usual retirement age, so the question is not why i am quitting, but why i kept at it so long. why did you? thomas: why do they keep at it so long? there were a lot of things happening different from the way in most of the media. i enjoyed doing it, i enjoyed hearing back from people. i was sorry i never had a chance to reply to them all. -- i'm just going to ask you why you put this in the column and you can expand on it if you would like. havewn family did not electricity or running water in my childhood, which was not unusual for blacks in the south in those days." what you member about those days? remember a lot because i did not leave the south until i was a most nine years old. i spent a fair amount of time down there. most of those places, there was not a lot of hot running water. we had cold water. many other blacks in those days did not have, by the way. sort of saying where i came from. >> you moved to harlem. what was that like? thomas: i lived with the
