vernon odom is live at southwest detective headquarters in west philadelphia. >> reporter: good evening jim. to hear the police tell it, stewart was completely out of control terrorizing a section of west philadelphia with reckless and deadly abandon. police say that they have solved the march 26th murder of 17-year-old tiewhen chandler. and arrested making stewart. he was in the midst of a four day rampage of robberies focused on the market street corridor at north 52nd. it began when stewart robbed a man who was licensed to carry a handgun with a ladieser scope and tracing the gun was the key to nailing stewart. >> in every case he got the money, and he was excited about having the gun because he kept pointing the laser sight at them. >> this young man comes out of the bar and sticks these two young men up and takes their money and they tell their father and the father comes back and approaches the male and the two of them get in a physical fight and the gun was pulled and he shot the father one time in the face. >> and the motive was to catch people alone on the city streets at night

a really disturbing story involving the home you see behind me here in west philadelphia involving what one police official described to me as one of the worst cases of neglect he's ever seen. katherine williams says she knew that one of her neighbors was caring for a relative who became a paraplegic after a traffic accident. so, katherine says, she did what she could to help the man she knew only as david. >> he was like cold a little bit so i crochet and i made him a blanket to put around his legs to keep him warm. >> reporter: over the past few months she lost touch with her neighbors. then this past weekend, investigators from the philadelphia police special victims unit started walking around the unit block of north conestoga street showing pictures of david in the hospital covered with bedsores. >> i didn't know what was going on until they told me yesterday these cops came around showing pictures and i didn't know that he was that bad off. i didn't know he was sick like that. >> reporter: the investigation started when an unidentified woman brought david to bryn mawr hospital thi

police in west philadelphia are investigating a fatal shooting. it happened last night here in the 4600 block of westminster avenue, just after 6:30. the 25 year old victim suffered a gunshot wound under his right arm. he was taken to the hospital and died just after 7:00. police have not disclosed motive for the shooting. >> plans to renovate new jersey state house come up for vote this morning. the state capitol joint management committee is voting on resolution approving four year $300 million renovation. the jersey governor chris christie announced major renovations to the deteriorating 18th century building back in november. he calls it a firetrap that has not been significantly updated 60 years. >> and as many as 20 nuns being forced to relocate from the cardinal o'hara campus. the sisters have lived on the school's property for decades. according to school documents the convent will eventually be converted into housing for international high school student. in a statement the archdioces says the convents are currently being under utilized.

okay, so we have some clearing going on to the north and west of philadelphia.ll some clouds from about the city south. you can see the movement of these clouds and we are looking at cloud cover settling to the south and lots of sun in play today. 53 degrees a little bit cooler on the bus stop this morning than it was this time yesterday. just 46 degrees in allentown. 49 in trenton, 50 in wilmington, 51 up in reading and 57 in cape may. but with winds running in general on the light side this morning, it's not really that uncomfortable. a light jacket will do you just fine. we're down to about 9 miles per hour wind in philadelphia right now. 52 degrees by 7 o'clock. 61 by noon t today will not be quite as warm as yesterday when we did manage late day highs in the 70's but we'll still be pleasant enough. a high of 67 degrees striking that at about 4 o'clock and then down to 59 degrees by 7 o'clock. and again that allergy count the pollen forecast not looking great. we'll be in the high range today, straight through friday the way things look now. what else is new
