so pleased to welcome tonight andrew carroll. andrew carroll is editor of several new york times bestsellers including war letters, letters of a nation and behind the lines. andrew carroll edited on a pro bono basis operation homecoming, iraq, afghanistan and the homefront, the words of us troops and their families which inspired the emmy award-winning film of the same name. in 1998 andrew carroll founded a legacy project, all volunteer initiative that honors veterans and active-duty troops by preserving their wartime correspondence. andrew carroll has traveled 1250 states and more than 40 countries including iraq and afghanistan and he has collected an estimated 100,000 previously unpublished letters and emails. andrew carroll donated his massive collection to chapman university which is where rogers and my son went to school. the legacy project has been renamed the center for american war letters and is part of chapman university. andrew served as the center's director. andrew is embarking on the million letters campaign to see

we did get reports of hail in a severe storm up in carroll county.a sized hail in montgomery county and there might have be a of hail here east of charlestown as we've been watching these go by. the movement is generally east. the threat is the heavy rain but in a severe thunderstorm warning you can also get a wind that could gust to 60 miles an hour so trees are a concern. hail and lightning as well. so, these are again going to be tracking off to the east. we'll put a little fan on here and you can see some of the tracks. some of these names you probably never heard of. that's what's going on. the storm we're tracking up through montgomery county that has weakened as it's approaching the columbia area. a straggler toward the damascus area but that's just dropping rain, nothing too severe with that one and we had been tracking a stronger storm up toward carroll county but it looks like that storm is wearing itself out. kind of a busy night around here with a lot of lightning and we are certainly aware that many of you may have plans for this evening
