. >>> a daring rescue in santa cruz coast guard called in to save a kite border, a daring rescue. it makes the third just like this month alone. nbc bay area's pete suratos has more on this issue. >> good morning to you guys, back in the studio we see several of these types of water rescues in the past month across the bay area, including one not too far from here at oyster point marina in south san francisco. that one taking place over the weekend but we show you some of the new video from some of the most recent water rescue in santa cruz. you can see in that video the coast guard in action just yesterday using a helicopter to save a kite surfer. now, according to the coast guard it received a report about the kite surfer in distress near a rocky part of santa cruz around 4:00 p.m. yesterday. crew members were eventually able to save that kite surfer who didn't suffer any major injuries and then on saturday yet another similar rescue near oyster point, a couple of days beforehand where a kite surfer and instructor were rescued more towards the sfo area. this case involved indivi

the coast guard using what looks to be helicopter for the air rescue of a kite surfer. according to the coast guard, they received a report about the kite surfer around 4:00 p.m. yesterday. the crew members were eventually able to rescue the kite surfer who didn't suffer any major injuries. a few days before that in oyster point, a kite surfer and instructor were rescued near this area, but we're told from a coast guard member not too far from here, it because more towards san francisco airport where the person was rescued, and in this case, both individuals weren't wearing life jackets and had to hold on to a buoy during that rescue. with all this said, coast guard is reminding folks to be aware of your surroundings in the water, and if possible, travel with a group so someone can call for help if needed. we're live in south san francisco. >> thanks for the latest there, pete. breaking news this morning. nbc news confirming the white house communications director is resigning. a senior official says mike dunke gave a letter of resignation on may 18th and agreed to stay

two kite surfers were rescued from the ocean after one of their kite's became entangled with a buoy.appened just after 7:00 last night from the waters off candlestick point. the two men, an instructor and another man were expected to return to land around 5:30. but they were unable to get back to shore after the one of their kites became entangled with a buoy. the other man was able to circle back to the trapped surfer and stayed with him into rescue crews arrived. both are expected to survive. ( james ) a warning if you ate at chipotle in the last month... the restaurant says their payment system was hacked, and your information may have been stolen. chipotle discovered the data breach on tuesday. however they say they are now looking at card payments at all of their restaurants between march 24th and april 18th. people who paid with a credit or debit card during that time will be notified if their account is at risk of being compromised. this is the latest problem for chipotle after they are still trying to recover from an e-coli outbreak in 20-15. the breach happened all across th

. >>> these kite surfers are safe on dry land this memorial day thanks to san francisco's coast guard. crews got a call on saturday night about two people stranded near oyster point marina, an hour later they found these kite surfers holding tight to a navigation buoy. neither surfer was wearing a life jacket. the coast guard made sure both got to shore safely. >>> the outdoor adventure has ended in injury or worse and that is the coast guard is stressing don't hit the bay without a life jacket. rescue crews are urging boaters to be careful. >> reporter: search and rescue workers scoured the water for a missing boater. they say the 53-year-old man who was not wearing a life jacket jumped into the water to retrieve his hat. he ended up losing a lot more. his companions on a boat tried to pull him up but lost sight of him. >> sad to hear, you know, i mean, it sounds like it was kind of an impulsive decision. >> reporter: it's the second tragedy in that area in recent weeks. last saturday just outside of the pittsburgh marina a boater drowned trying to rescue his son who went overboard.

if you look closely at that video you can see a buoy, a kite instructor and kite surfer on a jetski hado be rescued by the u.s. coast guard near oyster point marina on saturday night. neither was wearing a life jacket but they were able to grab on to that buoy where they were eventually spotted by the coast guard and rescued. the coast guard did call off a search for a man who jumped off his boat near the antioch bridge this weekend. the 55-year-old antioch man went into the water saturday and hasn't been seen since. sunday's effort to recover his body focused on the east side of the bridge. the sacramento sheriff's office says the man jumped in off an anchored boat to try to get his hat and never came back up. the accident happened on the same weekend that law enforcement agencies were teaming up for a boating safety operation. >> you need to ask lots of questions at the marina where you put in. just local knowledge and that sort of stuff. you need to have spent some time before you get on the water before you determine where the sandbars are. you need to know if you break down, who do
