( darya ) happening now... there are growing concerns about fires at homeless encampments in the east bay. in the last few weeks, there have been three in oakland. the latest happened monday night right under interstate 580. half of the 40 tents at a city sanctioned homeless encampment at 35th and magnolia streets went up in flames. no one was injured. there was also a fire earlier in the day at another encampment, and another one on april 13th. city officials say shutting down homeless encampments is not the answer.
