they appeared to target the student body's first black female government president, taylor dumpson and her sorority, the akas. on tuesday and wednesday, students held town halls and rallies. the school canceled a meeting with dumpson and the black student union. then one school official sent ples to protect dumpson after online threats written by white supremacist. meagan fitzgerald is there. what's happening now? >> reporter: there's a protest happening right now, and it's because students say they're still concerned about the way in which the university handled these latest incidents. more than two dozen student protesters marched on campus. you'll see where that police car is, he's blocking traffic, because students are beyond that. they blocked off the tunnel and they are calling for changes. they are calling for a safer environment, because they say something has to happen. >> last night, it just felt different. i was definitely watching my back and making sure i'm okay. >> reporter: there's no doubt about it, the vibe on campus has changed for many students since monday, but conc

university staging a sit-in to protest the messages of hate week and the target of that hate, taylor dumpson, had to have police protection. a post written on thursday, by a white supremacist encouraged others to harass here. meagan fitzgerald is live at au with the latest developments. meagan? >> yeah, wendy, i spoke to a lot of protesters, they tell me they feel like the university is not listening to their concerns and not adequately addressing racial issues. today we saw them march on campus, shutting down the tunnel at one point, and they say they will continue these acts of resistance, as they call it, until the university starts listening. >> hoping this time the administration will listen to us. >> reporter: concerns continue to grow for many students of color on the campus of american university. they say the administration isn't effectively addressing racially charged incidents on campus. so today -- >> if we don't get no justice -- >> then you don't get no peace! >> reporter: -- more protests. students hanging from a noose has impacted them. >> we're basically asking the administr

investigating a hate message posted online directed the the university's new student government president taylor dumpsone now in other news this morning the city of manassas realized it made an $850,000 mistake. it's been overcharging businesses on their tax bills for years and the plan to fix this problem isn't sitting well with people. fox5's lauren demarco has this story. >> reporter: while preparing for a budget proposal, the city government noticed it had been accidentally overcharging businesses the past few years. they were using a tax rate higher than what the tax code actually allows for. with interest, the city of manassas owes $850,000 to business owners. split among them, that will be an average refund of about 500 bucks a piece. business owners are happy, at least those who don't live here, b because it looks like that cash will come from a new tax increase on residents. >> the city is stepping up to the plate, they're coming out letting the businesses know they have been overpaying. they're looking to rectify the situation. >> residents are going to see tax go up so that they can pay this
