i don't impose bodybuilding on anyone. because a lot of people don't get it and everyone does it for a different reason. and there is a lot of ego in the industry and i don't like that. >> reporter: after working together for about a year, joe encouraged jon to enter a local bodybuilding competition. >> i really love people and helping people. so with jon he was already flexing and he was kind of already doing that anyway and looking on facebook and looking on different things on social media and so i was just like hey he could do this. >> down syndrome has low muscle tone so for him to have the muscles he has is pretty impressive. because he didn't walk until he was almost six. >> reporter: lisa dudley, jonathan's mother, has seen how bodybuilding has improved her son's self esteem. >> a lot of times he knows that he is different and there are certain things that he cannot do but this is one thing that he knows that he can do that you know there are some guys in for self confidence i think it's been awesome. >> reporter:

working out like a pro bodybuilder paid off for an east bay mortgage broker in more ways than one. presented to san ramon with a check for $10,000 after a grueling journey for nearly six months he trained for men's body building competition held earlier this month. he worked out 7 days a week and followed his very strict diet and filmed it all, posted photos on facebook. fund-raising for education is something brown does every year, but this time he says he kind of made the mistake of taking suggestions. >> i had some friends say, why don't you do a body building show and never doing that and not having enough information i said yes. and 5 1/2 months later by raising over $10,000 for our school and being very sore. it was quite a learning experience. >> and no body fat. he overcame several injuries, lost 40 pounds during the challenge and he says he hopes others turn to fitness to raise money for school. by the way, over the years his nonprofit has raised more than $100,000 for education. >> that is phenomenal. >> what a man. >> on face book book you can see some of the photos. bow
