two d.c. police officers, they were bicycle officers, were struck and injured. we're told one was thrown some 30 feet. also, again, that transportation worker, all of them, like megan said, have been taken to the hospital. a lot of people rushed down to the bars and restaurants last night to see what had happened and they saw at least one of the officers down on the ground. let's hear from one man who is a military veteran who came to one of the officers' aid. >> the officers were standing 25 truck was probably going about 50 miles an hour and just him them. >> reporter: d.c. police are confirming that the pickup truck watts traveling through the area at a high rate of speed. it's a busy area, a lot of night life and a speeding truck coming through here with police, according to one witness, trying to get that truck to slow down, to stop, it just kept on going and, begin, crashing right here in the hard of adams morgan. while they said two people were taken into custody. >>> darcy spencer, thank you

two d.c. policeike officers and dpw traffic control aide. it was 9 p.m. on a thursday, a pretty busy time for bars and restaurants in the area. witnesses say they saw the pickup truck impatient behind a metrobus decide to get out of the lane and speed around striking the officers and continuing on. then when the pickup truck came to rest after it struck a witnesses say they saw a passenger get out of the pickup truck, said the driver all of a sudden went crazy and they didn't know what was wrong with him. 1mpd bike was still attached to that pickup truck when it crashed a few blocks away. we also have some pretty good overhead video here you're looking at of the driver of that pickup truck being walked away from the scene. now, back out live here initially we were told by d.c. police that the driver was charged with hit-and-run. then later on d.c. police told us that the passenger was also placed under arrest. both of them were somewhat injured and were taken to the hospital. we're still waiting for

d.c. police chief speaking an hour ago. and sam sweeney is live in northwest the latest. good afternoon we just got an update from the police chief. he says one of those officers is still in critical condition. they are hoping for the best and are waiting on a prognosis from the hospital right now. condition. but they're hoping that officer will be released from the hospital either today or tomorrow. the good news is is that traffic already been released from the hospital. this was the scene that unfolded after 9:00 on 18th street in adams morgan. we are told by the police chief this pickup truck was seven cars whend a metro bus apparently for some reason unknown right now it pulled out of that traffic, went up the median and that is when it people,these three including the two police officers. it was a horrible scene. we are told the driver of that metro bus got out and sprinted in the words of the police like he has never seen anyone sprint before and come to the aid of those police officers. ems on the scene within seconds and they rush them to the hospital. that is why
