let's head over to glenn schwartz. tell us about that first alert forecast. >> some sunshine tomorrow. but not a fully sunny day. and the closer you are to the coast, the clouds will be. but it will be better than today. a couple peeks of sunshine here and there. but some pretty threatening looking sky out there with temperatures in the 60s. there's nothing on the radar to indicate any kind of rain. the temperatures fairly uniform in new jersey. 66 in mount laurel, medford and we're going to be probably in the 70 plus area tomorrow. 70 degrees in robinsville. we're going to see a huge warm-up. there's no doubt about that. and we're probably going to be having a heat wave starting on sunday. we could go ab entire week without rain. at least some of us, that's possible. and sunshine, it's coming. wait a couple days. we're going to have a lot of sunny days coming up. we have that 60 degree weather around here. it's only 64 in pittsburgh. so there isn't exactly warm air just to the west. we have to go pretty far to the wes

let's talk to meteorologist glenn schwartz.been tracking the storms that interrupted all the activities. >> there are already reports of some damage. >> there are reports of damage. there's still warnings out. the last three places you showed have not received any rain so far today. this is the cluster that we were talking about. the amount of lightning is actually increasing with that. this is the other part of the line, but this is much, much weaker. that is moving in our direction again. it's coming through chester county. now just about into delaware county. just about to hit rader in, which got pounded by the storm. this is just light to moderate rain that's coming in. that's nothing like what they had. lock at all these storm reports that keep come iing in. this one shows a tree down. that's the symbol for tree damage. so at 5:05, several large tree limbs down. potstown had tree and power lines down. damage to some homes. numerous trees down. green lane, trees and wires down. this is at 5:45 in burlington and ocean counti

nbc10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with me now, thanks for being here. right, we said intense heat last year, so can we expect more of that this summer? glenn: well, there's going to be obviously some intense heat. we've already had a half-dozen days in the 90s already. but i don't expect it to be as intense as last year. so last year, we had well over 50 days of 90 degrees or higher. this year, i don't expect 30 to maybe as much as 40. that's still above normal, so i'm still expecting a hotter than normal summer. but last summer was exceptionally dry too. and so, the drier the ground is, the more it can heat up. so, they kind of balance out. the more rain you get, the cooler it gets. so, i expect this to be a wetter summer, a much wetter summer than last year too. erin: but still hot. well, hurricane season just started, federal forecasters predicting up to 17 named storms, 4 of them could be major. what is your take on that, why? glenn: yeah, well, the greatest correlation with hurricanes is with what happens in the pacific ocean, called el niño or la n

. >> meteorologist glenn schwartz joins us now with the latest. we see some showers on the radar. >> we do have showers. we have had showers around for several hours. nothing as heavy as 5:00 a.m. there's more in northwestern pennsylvania. some showers through new jerseyen continue to move southward. just move through bridgeton and then another batch coming through allentown and more on the way. and allentown and reading, the areas most likely to get showers in the next few hours. but that threat is still there as we go through the evening hours. we'll watch what happens as we head towards daybreak tomorrow. everything falls apart except for the clouds. we're going to keep the clouds in, but get the showers out of the way. the temperature contrast is pretty amazing from 59 in mount holly and tren 58 degrees in atlantic city. so these temperatures are really tricky closer to the ocean. the cooler it is. more showers coming through. and a cooler morning leading to a cool afternoon. i'll tell you when it warms up big time in a few minutes. >>> it's p

glenn schwartz, the hurricane. >> limited period of time that things may get rough. first alert for severe thunderstorms for just about entire area except near the beaches of new jersey and delaware. between 3:00 and 9:00 p.m. tomorrow. not six hours any one spot but moving through the area. localized wind damage and brief downpours are likely. radar and satellite showing us showers and thunderstorms that have developed in pennsylvania, coming into the poconos, right here, a couple of showers near burkes county, fairly right but moving straight to the east. farther west is severe weather. tremendous area of thunderstorms there. that's what we're going to be watching for tomorrow. here's the hour by hour as we go through the evening. can see some of those strong thunderstorms near the poconos, lehigh valley, burkes county by 6:00. later in the evening could slide closer to philadelphia area, upper bucks, montgomery and perhaps mercer county in new jersey. storminess there. not the most severe part. that's coming in during the day tomorrow. time that down for you hour

we begin with meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with more. glenn? >> what ra difference >> what a difference day makes. temperatures way down, and now sunshine. pushing temperatures into the 80s and a west wind. as you can see what a difference. it was a -- yesterday, look at all the sunshine across the region. and how much the temperature has gone up. 17 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. atlantic city international, vineland, 16 in dover, 14 in philadelphia. that's a tremendous change. and at the shore itself, with the west wind, we've actually gotten up close to 80 degrees today. it won't be quite as warm tomorrow, i think, because of more of a southwest wind. there's a west wind today. and you can see the wind shift a little bit. that will allow it to get hot at the delaware beaches, but not as hod at -- the jersey shore. so here we go. for the weekend, we get up to 92 in philadelphia on sunday. only 82 at the jersey shore, but that is a really nice day. the hottest part of the day is around the middle of the day to early afternoon and the

glenn schwartz is backtracking showers and the impact on our area.ing up this weekend from tropical storm cindy. >> we have at least three threats of rain coming into part of the area. maybe even four. and all by noon on saturday. 88 in philadelphia. now that's as high as it's been today. we have a fair amount of sunshine across the area. it's not especially humid. at least not compared to the way it's going to be tomorrow. it's 88 in leesport. 86 in reading. 88 in allentown. these areas are the first that are going to be hit by any of the thunderstorms during the evening. there's reading and it's not on our doorstep, but it's moving in that direction. it's bringing in all sorts of moisture. that will be affecting us saturday morning. here's the hour by hour. and by 8:00 they are getting pounded here in the lehigh valley and upper bucks. just getting into it. then it zips through. the lesser chance of rain in delaware and south jersey tonight. here comes the next area of rain for tomorrow morning. that's more of a solid area. and that may not be the

here's glenn schwartz with more on the first alert and all that rain that is coming. >> what we havest is just some scattered showers and thunderstorms. the remnants of cindy is coming tomorrow morning. we issued that first alert yesterday to help you plan around it for the weekend. because of most of the weekend is going to be fine weather wise. you can see some of the thunderstorms already getting pretty close tr burkes county. some coming into the county. one thunderstorm moving to the east. it's about 40 miles an hour. so it should hit right around a 5:00. and douglas at 5:26. we'll track other thunderstorms as they get closer to us. we got much more activity in western pennsylvania. a lot more lightning with that one. and the true remnants of cindy, you can see the circulation of that in kentucky. that's going to affect us tomorrow morning. here's the hour by hour as we go through the night. there are more storms coming in from pittsburgh that will be getting into the area late this evening. probably before midnight. some strong, gusty winds possible with that. but the main area

let's kick things off with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> yeah. we have really good weather overall for the holiday weekend. we are starting off today a little bit on the hazy side. it will be hot and humid we want the alert you of thunderstorms. this is near lehigh valley towards 4:00 or 5:00 this afternoon and into this evening. you can see heavier storms. generally dries cross the rest of the area. that's just around one of those storms. 83 in philadelphia. 85 in allentown. a lot of places debting -- getting up to 90 degrees today. in the lehigh valley by expect some between the 3:00 and 7:00 hours and also getting up near 90 degrees. temperatures getting up close to 90 everywhere except for the jersey shore with that sea breeze. we are issuing a first a letter for tomorrow for new jersey. from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. for possible severe storms with loc localized wind damage. we'll get more into the hour by hour timing and the rest of the holiday weekend forecast coming up. >> sounds good. >>> time for a check on the roads with jessica boyington. wha

glenn schwartz has more information on that. >> there's going to be a a brief interruption and another nice weekend. by 7:00 a.m. the rain is already over. the sun is already starting to come out. but we're getting the thunderstorms in delaware and at the jersey shore. as we go through the morning, the rain is gone. the sun is coming out. it's going to be a nice day. not as humid as today. look at that sunshine throughout the afternoon. at the beaches, delaware beaches, that early shower ob saturday on saturday. . so it's going to be a nice day there. warm with the land breeze and then sunday is plenty sunny. wildwood, ocean temperatures 71 degrees. early thunderstorm followed by sunshine and then a beautiful day on sunday. atlantic city, ocean temperature 63. early thunderstorms followed by sunshine and then a great day on sunday. so it's just the beginning part of saturday. as you can see into early next week, the temperature goes down. look at all the dry days we get until that's the fourth of july weekend. we'll see if we can improve for the next few days. let's check in with deann

glenn hurricane schwartz has your most accurate first alert forecast. ntially, glenn. >> it does look like we're having a heat wave and we've been advertising this for quite a while. it is going to be happening and we may actually be close to some record levels before this is all over with. and it will be a while before we see temperatures like this in the afternoon. 67 in philadelphia but we're seeing more and more sunshine as we end the day and some peeks of sunshine elsewhere, but it's been pretty cloudy over most of the area during the day today. the temperature philly international 67 and it's 71 in port richmond, 69 graduate hospital, torresdale also 69 degrees. every one of these places will probably be over 80 degrees tomorrow. so that's quite a difference. so the big warm up has started. remember we were only in the 60s yesterday, 71 today. the heat wave starts sunday and gets even hotter monday and tuesday. we could be dry for about a week when you think of the last time we had some rain and sunshine, yeah, starting tomorrow, we're going to hav

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is back now with his hot and most accurate forecast. glenn? >> we are going to be getting into one. sunday is when the heat wave starts. you might want to do the outdoor stuff tomorrow when it won't be as hot. roller skating here, live at penns landing. a good crowd for this time of the night. 71 degrees. 60s at the shore, 70 at wilmington. look at the temperatures compared to this time last night. 10 to 15 degrees warmer. that warming trend has really come in big time. now we have a land breeze now at the delaware beaches. we're starting to get pretty close to a sea breeze at the jersey shore as you can see there with the winds. that's why it's going to cool down in the afternoon in new jersey while at the delaware beaches, 90 on saturday, 95, sunday. sunshine both days. won't be especially humid but you might want to jump in the ocean even though it is 62 degrees. at the jersey shore, wildwood, atlantic city 77 on saturday. 84 on sunday. around midday or early afternoon before the sea breezes come in. overall the weekend is going to be obvio

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. what do we have in store for us? >> it is a beautiful day. once we got rid of clouds and showers from earlier and they have moved out into the ocean. cape may is starting to see improvements with the weather. we are seeing sunshine. flags aren't blowing very much. there isn't a lot of wind. very low humidity. it is going to be a beautiful afternoon. we do have some showers starting to develop here. it is out of our viewing area. it is a sign of things to come. these are first signs and i expect lehigh valley would be the first parts of our area seeing some of these showers this arn. here we are at 1:00. this computer model has showers popping up already. you can get a quick thunderstorm with these kind of systems. it's not all that well organized. it doesn't last that long. even down into delaware we might see some of that later today, but then things really clear out tonight and tomorrow is just an amazing day for this time of the year. by 6:00 we'll be clearing out again. the sun is back out. by 6:00 tomorrow morni

meteorologist glenn schwartz joining with us your most accurate forecast. i wish this could last awhile. >> we have had a pretty nice day after the early morning showers. and we're going to have another spectacular day tomorrow. this is ocean city, new jersey, and you can see just a few folks left on the beach. it was all a lot more crowded a couple hours ago. pretty good beach conditions overall. high today was 80. that's pretty cool for a sunny afternoon in late june. got a couple showers down in central and southern delaware. got some more up in northern pennsylvania heading in the general direction of the poconos and burkes county. we have one thunderstorm that's come over chesapeake bay. these have been dying out. they have gotten closer. so we're going to keep an eye on them through the evening. but more showers and storms for at least a part of the weekend will get into that a little bit. >>> developing at 6:00, an 18-year-old man shot and killed in south philadelphia. outside the home on marshal street. at least 15 shell casings were found on the gr

let's get right to nbc 10 first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. what can we expect in the morning? >> it depends on how late you want to sleep. if you sleep late enough you might miss the whole thing. one area of rain is heavy right now and we'll be affecting burks, lehigh, north hampton, bucks, montgomery counties and why do i highlight those and those are the areas that have had probably more than an inch of rain and they have flood advisories already before the main area comes in. look at the size of this thing. this is the remnants of cindy and it is obviously moving in our direction. here's the hour-by-hour timing as we go to the middle of the morning. heavy from the poconos down to burks county and then right across the area from bucks county to chester county and at 5:30, 6:30, right over to the philadelphia area itself. 7:30, starting to come into new jersey, trenton getting hit hard, but it's already drying out north and west. by 8:00, the sun is coming out. north and west, and by 9:00 or 10:00 it's already offshore. i'll be back to talk

nbc 10 meteorologist glenn schwartz has first look at the forecast. >> we don't want changes. this weather is perfect. there were some showers in the area. there's a live view in ocean city. there's a pretty good crowd for a tuesday. and the ocean is looking really inviting. it's 63 degrees in that ocean. still on the chilly side. 81 in atlantic city international. 80 in philadelphia. 75 in coatesville. this is about as warm as it's been all day. these are we low normal temperatures. cooler than normal. we had a few showers going across some of the northern suburbs. we had had some coming through just north of philadelphia. now we have a few across chesapeake bay toward central and southern delaware. it shows some of those coming across delaware and into the area. the area is dry and when we gent into tomorrow, it's definitely dry. the temperature going down to 60 by 6:00 a.m. in philly. and into the low 50s in some areas. >>> more than two dozen people were injured and hundreds more evacuated when a subway train derailed in manhattan this morning. the incident also knocked ou

glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the timing of all of that rain. >> yeah. we are going to be getting more scattered showers this afternoon. nothing like a repeat of what we saw this morning. the clouds are in. it gives you an idea that clouds are low and they are going to hang in there. we have a few showers ton the radar in pennsylvania. whatever hit us is now well offshore. these showers are much lighter than what we saw. they are much more scattered. not going to last that long. but as we go through the afternoon you can see them coming down in the northwesterly wind flow. locally a little bit heavier in a couple of spots and during the afternoon rush. it's not going to be a widespread thing. there are going to be more showers. it is a very unstable atmosphere and in addition to all of the clouds we still have all of the showers. currently 64 degrees now. 59 in mount holly. 58 in trenton. it's cold for this time of the day. it is 59 allentown plus the cloud cover is going to help keep the temperature down. so we are not getting out in the 60s today. some

meteorologist glenn schwartz is joining us. >> we have enjoyed this comfortable stretch, but all thingsot to come to an end. >> it's not going to be dramatic change between today and tomorrow. but it should be a noticeable one. today would be just a perfect day for baseball. too bad there are 3,000 mile was playing baseball. right now, we have 8 degrees in philadelphia. it's 80 at the airport . the delaware bay is 71 degrees. those ocean temperatures are critical to forecasting at the shore. more significant cloud cover over the great lakes. that's going to take quite awhile to get here. we have a dry night tonight. mild in the evening. it does not cool off as much as it did last night. we're talking about 59 degrees in the lehigh valley by 6:00 a.m. where it was closer to 50 this morning. so that's a considerable difference. we're going to start off from a higher plane ask then with the sunshine tomorrow, it's going to get hotter. some folks may get pretty close to 90 degree mark and a lot of us will get to 90 degrees on friday. and i'll have more of us getting to the 90 degree mark on
