the homeowner was not having it. it led to a violent fight. a lot going on. katherine scott is ready to break it down for us from west spencer street. >> reporter: good morning, tam this is a complicated series of events that began with a homicide at 5th and spencer this was an extensive crime scene where it began and police have just opened the roads back up, within the last half-hour. let's start with the picture of the homicide victim, family identifies him as howard white a marine who was injured in a tank explosion years ago. as a disabled veteran he chose to go back overseas for seven years and work as an independent contractor. this happened at 4:00 a.m., howard was at a nearby bar and noticed a man casing the place. he was trying to defuse the situation and telling him to walk away and not rob the bar. that's when his family say he was shot twice. officers heard gunshots and arrived in time to see the suspect fleeing and white's cousin chasing him with two guns in his hand. he was a permit to carry and complied with police to drop the weapon. officers
