med star washington hospital center released a new statement on congressman scalise.gressman steve scalise sustained a rifle shot to the left hip. it traveled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs and causing severe bleeding. he underwent immediate surgery and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. the statement concludes he has received multiple units of blood transfusion. his condition is critical. we will provide updates. in addition to that, we are learning about who the gunman was. his movements and more. we're minimizing the use of his picture and his name. with that in mind, phil mattingly joins us with the latest. what are investigators finding? >> one of the key elements is social media. they are combing through his posts of which there are numerous and paint a picture. >> mostly political? >> mostly political. progressive causes. very anti-republican. very anti-president trump saying trump has destroyed our democracy. now we must destroy trump and company. that's a direct quote from one of the postings. very anti-hillary clinton. o

brian todd is at the med star washington hospital, with the very latest.went a third operation what do we know about his condition? >> reporter: anderson, a source with knowledge of the situation now tells us that congressman scalise is now out of that third surgery. it was unclear the duration of that surgery today, but he is now out of that surgery. it is complete for the day. this source that we spoke to cautions that this is what they did expect to do yesterday. this was not as if they had to rush him into surgery on an emergency basis today. they did expect to require additional surgeries and they did have a third surgery today. hospital officials telling us he is still listed in critical condition tonight here at washington hospital center. and when you look at the nature of his wound, anderson, you can certainly understand why they did require additional surgeries. from hospital officials, they say he did suffer that single gunshot wound to the left hip. that the bullet went across his pelvis, that it fractured some bones, it injured some internal o
