mr. young: mr. speaker, this legislation, h.r. 220, allows for the expansion of the tara lake hydroleak trick project on kodiak island of alaska. high the way which is larger than new jersey. the tara lake hydroelectric project provides hydropower capacity to the island of 13,189 residents and largest coast guard station in the united states. kodiak island is roughly the size of new jersey. it means it's reliant upon the electrical generation on the island mostly by hydroat this time. some diesel. with the growing electrical demands in the residents of kodiak, the association will not be able to meet their needs without requiring additional resources or will be forced to increase the use of diesel. there is no reason why hydrorich community like kodiak should have to rely on diesel fuel for power generation. they wish to expand their operation by increasing their water resources, and i agree. my legislation allows the kodiak electric company to divert small flows of additional water from upper hidde

mr. carter: mr. speaker, i rise today to remember the life of army specialist murphy who died on may 26 when his vehicle overturned in syria as part of operation inherent resolve. specialist murphy was raised in loganville, georgia, where from an early age he showed a keen interest in the american armed forces and for serving his country. he enlisted in the army at 18 years old and two years later he joined the first battalion of the 75th ranger regimen stationed at hunter army air field. he was just five days into his first deployment in syria when his vehicle was involved in a nontactical rollover-related accident which is still under investigation. murphy's wife and two young sons continue to reside in savannah, georgia, where he was stationed. only a short time after memorial day, specialist murphy's passing reminds us all that freedom comes at a high price and service men and women face danger daily when fighting to preserve american values against terrorism. i want to share my deepest condolenc

mrs. maloney: mr. speaker, some of my friends and colleagues on the other side of the aisle continue to claim that under the senate's health care plan, women will be protected from discrimination. they won't be charged more for their health care than men. however, the facts show that nothing could be further from the truth. the senate bill actually targets women for -- with the cruelest cuts of all. it does so by allowing states to do away access to essential health services now available under the affordable care act. services like maternity care, no cost birth control and mammogram screening. but the senate plan would allow states to completely waive any guarantee of service. and states could once again allow insurers to allow pre-existing conditions like pregnancy in setting fees and allowing them to charge more. plus $800 billion in medicaid cuts and defunding planned parenthood harms women. no matter how they say otherwise, they are marching back to the battle days of women. yield back. the speake
