nora muchanic is live with the lightest. >> reporter: hi there rick. search warrant is being executed here on woodstock drive at the home of richard kauffman and at his medical office where the trouble started this morning. authorities will not say what they are looking for but it's not connected to april kauffman's murder. >> we have an investigation into various ongoing activity unrelated to the homicide of dr. kauffman's late wife, april. >> the drama unfolded at the medical office of of james kauffman. the husband of murdered radio host april kauffman found shot to death in hire home in 2012. when the fbi, his investigators and local police arrived to execute a search warrant, dr. kauffman was uncooperative and pulled out a .9 millimeter luger handgun. >> after a 30 to 45 minute standoff. dr. kauffman surrendered himself and was placed under arrest for possessing unlawful weapons and hollow point bullets. they only said that the search warrants at his office and at his home are part of an ongoing wide range investigation not related to april kauffm

nora muchanic is live in the newsroom and nora you spoke to a number of people with fond memories of thomas white. white was a school resource officer that made his mark on thousands of students over the years. we learned this afternoon that he apparently took his own life. >> a smiling face that will be remembered. 44-year-old officer tom white an eight year veteran died off duty monday afternoon. his truck collided with a van on nottingham way, but the cause of death was not the crash but a self-inflicted gunshot wound. >> personally i didn't know my wife went to school with him and she was supset when she found out he passed. >> and he went above and beyond interacting with the kids. >> he was the lead for the middle school and codirector of safety town where kids learned safety before entering school. many of the students wore blue in his honor. he was beloved by the children. >> he was a really good man and helped a lot of people and cared about everybody. and wanted good for everybody. >> it's a real shame that he had to die so young i'll really miss him. >> one of his children

nora muchanic has an update on the efforts to rid camden's neighborhoods of polite. >> reporter: heavy equipment is demolishing an old medical office on the 1200 block of kaighn avenue in camden's gateway neighborhood. the city is using a 3 million-dollar state loan to clear away vacant and abandoned commercial properties like this. >> we're struggling and working hard to rebuild camden and so this is a step forward to clear this site that will hopefully attract development to this particular site. >> this building has been like this for several years now and we're trying to bring some new businesses here to the city. >> reporter: in the last year and a half the city has knocked down about 600 vacant houses. what officials call the largest demolition project in state history. phase three of the program focuses on vacant commercial buildings. police say all of these abandoned structures are magnets for crime. >> we're eliminating places for prostitutes to go. we're eliminating the places for them to stash their drugs or to sell drugs. we had fires because they were in there doing the dr

and "action news" reporter, nora muchanic, saw the bear firsthand and you can hear his story coming up tonight at 6:00. >> and police are looking to make an arrest. in all more than 30 bullets were fired. three people were hit and two of them died. janet reyes has the story from police headquarters. >> it woke me up out of my sleep. a stream of bullets jolted wayne harris out of his bed last night. harris would later learn the sound was a deadly shootout down the street. and that is happened on the 1300 block of west rush street in philadelphia. witnesses say that two men on bikes approached the victims and fired 30 times at close range. officers arrived at the scene to find two men, 24-year-old dominic gainy and 37-year-old derrell williams. they had multiple gunshot wounds to their torsos and were surrounded by shell casings. >> one was on the ground pumping and pumping for hours. he was gone. >> they looked on as they desperately tried to save the victim's lives. >> i said it's over but they tried. >> a victim a 20-year-old male showed up at temple hospital, by private auto. >> this
