our northern virginia reporter david culver is live outside federal court. this particular case is raising an awful lot of questions. >> reporter: a lot of questions. i was going through the facebook page and a lot of you at home are asking the question how. how does somebody have so many run ins with the law get deported five times back to el salvador and then get back in? it's a question we have been asking all day. let's take you back to the start of this case. chopper 4 above, below federal agents. loudoun county sheriff's deputies and state police officers trying to track down this man. he had been arrested for allegedly being drunk in public. he faces local assault and battery charges. federal officials say he was in the country undocumented. as immigration officers take him to louden court documents say he complained about handcuffs being too fight. one officer pulled over and loosened them but says marlo mendez hit him and took off. we learned he had been deported five times before. >> people have been deported a number of times from the united state

david culver is outside the court. what are we learning about the suspect today? >> reporter: i can tell you that we were inside the courtroom just a short time ago when he appeared for the first time in front of a judge. because of the holiday yesterday he was still in custody. he went in front of the judge. we know about marlo mendez a little bit more. he is a citizen from el salvador. i want to take you back with a little more detail. it started monday in loudoun county with initial arrest for being allegedly drunk in public and local to assault and battery. loudoun county deputies transferred custody to immigration officers. immigration officers decided to transport him from louden to fairfax. this is how it all played out. we were above the scene on monday as that incident within the van turned violent. apparently his handcuffs were too tight. he asked one officer to loosen them. the officer pulled over on the dulles freeway, got out and loosened it. that is when he got hit and marlo mendez apparently took off. he was gone for more than three hours. they had

news4's david culver is already on the scene and will be working the story for you later today. >>> we're following breaking news right now. a construction worker has been killed. prince george's county fire and ems say the worker was trapped up to the chest at a construction site on neptune avenue. police say he was performing utility work on a roadway. rescue teams tried to pull the worker out but were unsuccessful. at this point, it's not clear what led up to the incident. we'll have an update on the nbc washington app as soon as we get more in >>> two people are without a home this morning after this house fire in hyattsville. it started around 5:00 this morning. chopper 4 was there as prince george's firefighters got this under control about an hour later. no one was hurt but you can see there is significant damage to this home. >>> if you live, drive, or work in prince george's county, you're going to see more police officers on the street. the reason is a recent spike in violent crime. news4's justin finch is live at police headquarters in palmer park with the added steps officers
