in the late 1990's a catholic nunn sister bernie and two other wonderful nuns theresa and paula decided to try to offer health care for people who didn't have health insurance at this county fairground. they set up with a few volunteers and they said you live in appalachia, if you don't have health insurance, if you need medical care or dental care come and we'll see what we can do. they do this every weekend, every july one weekend a year. here's what this has grown into. i first went when i was lieutenant governor in 2002. people started to arrive -- and i talked about this on the floor but i just did it friday and want to share stories. they start to arrive tuesday or wednesday in cars and they camp on the camp ground. it's july. this weekend was the hottest weekend in the summer. they start camping with their kids often in cars. some are sleeping in cars. some are throwing blankets on the lawn next to a chain link fence and they wait in the tens, dozens, 50's, 100. they open the door at 6 a.m. friday morning and the people who waited for days come and get a number to see if they can
