officers here at the hayward chp office tell me they were deep into their investigation last night on monday's san leandro freeway shooting when they got the call that it had happened again. last night's freeway shooting on northbound 880 in hayward was the 100th freeway shooting in the bay area since november of 2015. >> it's unfortunate that it appears like now it's just common place. that it happens, you know, any given point in time on any night out here. >> reporter: no one was shot at 10:00 last night when a white car pulled up next to another car and a passenger leaned out and started shooting. >> for the amount of shots that were fired, we're quite lucky that this could have been much more serious. >> how many shots? >> several shots. >> reporter: the chp says it is doing everything within it's power to prevent and investigate these shootings. funding has been set aside to buy and install more cameras in contra costa county where most have happened. it is a partnership with the state and local officials. so the details of where and when those cameras will be in place are still

matt keller live for us in hayward. good morning, matt. >> the bay area is helping out in so many different ways. whether it's those rescue teams from our local fire departments salvation army. everyone wants to help out. and this is a commitment. the group that is leaving the salvation army this morning is going to be gone for about two weeks. different kinds of help are needed. the three people, captain john kelly, captain randy clark, and major sheryl clark are from the hayward and antioch corps. they'll provide emotional and spiritual care, where salvation army disaster services teams are located. the three are familiar with working in emergency disaster areas. >> people are evacuated out of their homes. they can't take anything with them. and then they are stationed at a shelter. and left not knowing anything. not knowing if they have anything left. it's just a complete devastating situation for them. >> the salvation army has more than 50 mobile kitchens deployed to texas. they serve thousands of meals. the crew f

the east bay this week happened along 880 near jackson street in hayward late last night. the first happened less than 4 miles away on monday morning. kpix 5's jessica flores reports the shooters are still out there. >> onlookers observed a person hanging out a car window shooting at another person. >> reporter: chp says the suspect fired a gun into the victim's car multiple times. no one was shot. however, broken glass injured a passenger. chp says the victims, both driver and passenger, are teenagers. >> they determined the injuries were minor. >> reporter: chp closed down lanes to collect evidence and as officers looked for the suspect in hayward, investigators are looking for the man who shot a driver in the head early monday morning. along 880 near the lewelling exit. road rage may have triggered monday's incident. the victim is in the hospital in critical condition. >> too early to make assumptions that they are connected. >> reporter: there's no detailed description for the suspects. witness monday say the vehicle was white. in hayward, jessica flores, kpix 5. >>> a

hayward police arrested a man accused of stealing a truck and opening fire at the owner. the victim tells abc 7 news he was visited a friend in hayward saturday night when he heard the engine of his dodge ram start up. truck was being stolen. borrowed his friend's truck to flo the suspect and caught up to him. that's when the suspect pulled out a gun. >> pulled up right up to the back, said hey, that's my truck. he said, so-and-so you, and he pulled out a gun and shot. so then he took off and i didn't bother to follow after that. >> hayward police chased the suspect through the city streets where he crashed into several cars. at one point, police say he drove right toward officers. one officer opened fire but missed the suspect who then crashed the stolen truck and got arrested. >>> san francisco has put in a bid to buy a mcdonald's that it identified as a magnet for trouble. the restaurant was in the news on thursday when a man was shot and wounded inside. city officials want to replace the fast food giant with affordable housing. according to the chronicle, a mcdonald's
