afternoon, sacramento county deputies robert french was shot and killed in the parking lot of that ramada inn. he was working with other officers on a stolen car detail. it all started when deputies spotted two women getting into a stolen car at the inn on auburn boulevard in sacramento. they led officers on a chase, but were arrested. then officers went back to the hotel to serve a search warrant related to the car. when officers knocked on the door, a man inside opened fire, through the door and a wall. two chp officers were hit. the suspect then ran to the balcony where he shot deputy french. the suspect jumped off the balcony and into a car and crashed it a few blocks away. he opened fire on the officers when he got out, but was shot. and then he was taken into custody. his condition is not yet released. investigators believe he may have had other people inside the room with him when he opened fire. >> we can train people as best we can in terms of officer safety. but if someone is willing to take the first shot, there's little we can do to defend it. you have the facts coming out later i
