betsy woodruff is reporting in "the daily beast" tonight, special counsel bob mueller has teamed up with the irs according to sources familiar with his investigation into alleged russian election interference. his probe has enlisted the help of agents from the irs criminal investigations unit. this unit, known as ci, is one of the federal government's most tight knit, specialized, and secretive investigative agencies. it's agents focus exclusively on financial crime including tax evasion and money laundering. betsy woodruff will join us in a moment with more on her reporting. the irs special agents in the criminal investigations unit are, on a per-dollar basis, simply the most valuable employees in american government at any level, federal, state, or local. at salary levels in the neighborhood of $100,000 a year, they each collect millions upon millions upon millions of dollars in taxes that the treasury was otherwise not going to ever see. they collect that as a result of their successful tax investigations. they are a profit center in the federal government. they are highly experienced
