there should be a law -- reading the federal trade commission documents on this. these companies are allowed to charge for these freezes. we need to get something in place where when these kind of breeps happ breaches happen, none of them should be able to charge for the freezes and unfreezes. because it's their fault it was necessary. so that's just a comment. also from the federal trade commission website, it says a credit freeze restricts access to your credit report which in turn makes it more difficult for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name. and it says what's the difference between that and a fraud alert. it says a credit freeze locks down your credit, fraud alert allows creditors to get a copy of the credit report as long as they take steps to identify your identity if you provide a telephone number. the business must call you to verify whether you are the person making the credit request. fraud alerts may be effective at stopping someone from opening new credit accounts in your name but they may not prevent the misuse of your existing accou
