thousands of students in the napa unified school district will return to school for the first time in two weeks since the atlas fire and others broke out in the north bay. schools closed because of bad air quality. smoke-filled classrooms and ash. teachers and maintenance crews have been airing out buildings and clearing away the ash. they had to turn off air conditioning units to change out filters. adjustments will be made when air quality is bad. the superintendent posted a video last night thanking first responders and thanking parents and students for their patience and understanding. >> there's amazing stories of our students volunteering at the evacuation centers, the vintage farm, and many other ways they showed real leadership. they're showing the leadership we expect from our students and we are so grateful and so honored to be serving them. >> reporter: i just checked the bay area air quality management website to see how things are today. in napa county it shows this area is in the yellow. there is only a small risk for people who already have respiratory problems. reporti

napa valley unified said they will have counselors on hand and provide free meals for those affected by the fires. regular school activities including football games are back on schedule. napa valley college and the santa rosa and junior college are also reopening for classes today. >>> the red cross is opening a service center for people in sonoma county affected by the fires. that will have meetings and case workers for the victims of the fires. they will help assess needs related to the fires and provide recovery information as well as referrals to other agencies. some people will also be given tools to help with the cleanup. fire victims are asked to bring some sort of proof including a driver's license or utility bill that they did live in the areas hit by the fires. the center is at the red cross office near the santa rosa airport. it will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through next sunday. >>> and this weekend authorities lifted the evacuation orders for several more santa rosa neighborhoods. many more people returned to their homes for the very first times since the fires
