the oakland airport camera, oakland right now dealing with some unhealthy air. i want to show you what's going on with our air at this hour. the particulate matter in the skies, this morning for napa coming in at 329. so normally on a bad unhealthy day we see 200 plus. this is very uncommon to see numbers in the 300s, unprecedented. oakland 161 at this hour the amount of particulate matter in the air. livermore high at 152. we are expecting to see those numbers increase throughout the day. that's why there is another "spare the air" alert in effect all the way through sunday in fact. we are not expecting to get much clearing at all. very unhealthy range for the north bay, coast, east bay, south bay, santa clara valley, all in the unhealthy range. this is unhealthy for all age groups, seniors, kids, healthy adults. here's why. we are getting north winds coming in pushing all the smoke from the fires to the north down into the bay area. so the worst air quality is expected today. and again we are not getting clearing. we do need some rain. that's not in the forecas

north bay coast still under and unhealthy air quality range. unhealthy for folks that are sensitive. seniors, people with respiratory problems. moderate conditions for the rest of the bay area. here's what we will see with the winds. for the next few hours, we will continue to see the calmer conditions. the winds will not pick up until later on this afternoon when they bump up a little bit. napa around 10 miles per hour sustained today. that is way better than what it was yesterday in the 20s and 30s with wind gusts as high as 70. here's what we will start to notice, the winds will pick up a little this afternoon, but by wednesday morning , overnight tuesday into wednesday morning, right around midnight, santa rosa winds will pick up and continue to stay strong through the early morning hours wednesday. this will be nothing like what we saw yesterday morning, but they are going to pick up again. today is the day, the break with the winds, the calmer and cooler conditions that firefighters need to get a handle on these fires. but tomorrow, this l

air conditions that are floating around the bay area. we've had that unhealthy, now even deadly air quality for the last week. >> let's go to meteorologist kari hall who has been tracking all of this. kari, hopefully the rain later in the week could help? >> yeah, but it's not coming soon enough. we have been dealing with this very dangerous air quality for about a week now. even as we look out over san francisco, some drifts of smoke moving by. it's another clear the air alert day. unhealthy air quality for the north bay and even for the valleys, it's unhealthy because the smoke we are seeing today with the calm winds are just kind of settling into the valley. locally dense smoke, especially in the north bay with our winds blowing offshore. it does take some of the thickest smoke out of the bay area, south of marin county. as we go through the rest of the day, our winds stay nice and calm, but that does help keep that unhealthy air quality in the valleys as we go into tonight as well. then we'll start to see a shift in our winds as we go into the day tomorrow.

smoke advisories unhealthy air quality as well. that's take a look at the forecast. from the air quality management district. you can see the scale from 0- 300. we would like to be at zero. you can see the number in the north bay at 210. these numbers projected to go down tomorrow. that is good news. it all depends on the behavior of the fires as well. that is setting up a lot of smoke that could be drifting close to the bay area. we should have a better forecast tomorrow. we are still going to have a lot of haziness and smoke in the bay area for tomorrow and into the weekend. it shows up clearly dramatically on the satellite. this is from this morning into the afternoon. plumes heading to san francisco. heading to oakland as well. numbers show a slight improvement. based on the fires if we have another big burst of activity tonight that changes everything. smoke will be an issue for us for tomorrow and possibly through the weekend. especially with the wind increasing by friday night into saturday morning. we will keep an eye on the air quality in the fire conditions.
