steve malzberg steve thank you so much for being with us my pleasure you know you got to be the guy to ask whether or not something that failed you know obamacare repeal in place was supposed to be done on day one somehow they think that's an additive but i'm ready for your take how does that make it easier to pass this thing well first of all two for one who would want to for one especially donald trump who by the way tweeted out monday from asia that he would like to see this included in the senate bill and the tax reform so they heeded him and they listened and here's the deal you wrap it up in a different package slide it in and suddenly it becomes palatable i am told that the senate believes that they have fifty senators on board all republicans of course to get this passed and of course that's all they need because then the deciding vote could be cast by mike pence we don't know about susan collins we don't know about mccaskey they're going to have their qualms and their doubts but if you have fifty senators go for this and not only go for a two in one win but also it makes fiscal sense the senate neither the senate or the house can be over budget on this tax cut if they do suddenly they'll need sixty votes in the senate according to the rules to get it passed so they have to save money and this is going to save them three hundred thirty four billion dollars over ten years yeah i mean i get the logic but you know susan collins as you say for. publican from maine who bailed last time on the on health care you know she said don't get this too complicated i wrote an op ed not long ago john and i said you know i want i want tax reform like you do maybe not exactly like you do but i want it to be a pad and i said you know the president's strategy should be to get out of the way and let congress do it so this last minute you know tweak throw in health care we'll see how it how it plays out but let's get into a couple more of the nitty gritty here how about state local taxes the salt and the adoption tax credit and and the student loan interest and the health care interest deductions from your taxes that's been really controversial what's going on with those well let me let me take the easy ones first the all the ones you mentioned including the adoption the senate keeps whereas the house did away with some of them on as you mentioned the medical deduction and others but the senate keeps them and to the adoption the deduction the house passed an amendment the brady amendment he's the chairman of the house ways and means committee so they're going to have that in there as well the real sticking point is going to be salt state local taxes the deduction for state local taxes is got from the house totally got from the senate what the house allows in their bill is for a property tax deduction of up to ten thousand dollars the senate says no way but i heard the majority leader mccarthy today say that you know this is something that's going to have to be discussed we may not have enough republicans in the house to pass our bill if we reconcile with the senate and there's no property tax deduction whatsoever so i think there will be a property tax deduction when the two bills are passed and they come to reconcile you know to reconcile in the conference i think that will be included a great point i mean in the house you know they've got the republicans have about a thirty. thirty vote bargain but if you take even the republicans from those high stacked tax states there's no fourteen or fifteen in california there's eight or nine and in new york so they get close to be making making a difference paper and get it done by the end of this year as they keep doubling down on doing yeah by the way new jersey where i live boy if i get a good hit but anyway yeah i think they're going to get it done the house is get a vote on their bill tomorrow the senate is going to vote on their bill that week after thanksgiving and donald trump wants to sign this for a big christmas present and a big victory you know politically speaking which if you want to talk about we can for the republicans and for the president we'll get to that next time and i love doing this with you thanks for coming and steve conservative. steve malzberg thank you. shared economies exist throughout history that is the old school business relationships that are disrupted by new kids on the block we saw it and continue to see it in retail which is now heavily based as we all know upon online sales as opposed to the legacy brick and mortar stores and we've seen it with lifton over a sharing what used to be the domain of taxicabs and we're seeing it in hotels which are not competing with home rentals and companies like air b.n. b. or they are competing with these home rental companies like air b.n. b. b. r. b. o. home away and others so how is that working in this new shared economy here tell us is professor brian friedman he's the founder of friedman capital and his professorship at georgetown and real estate finance brian thank you for being here really appreciate you ok so is this how hot and heavy the pressure that's on the hotels from the air b.n. b. and b. are b.o.'s now this is a very real thing and it'

steve malzberg steve what do you think are we going to see tax reform passed by christmas. well yes a big step was taken today the senate budget committee along party lines pass the senate bill out of committee and in effect sends it to the floor where we'll get a vote on it possibly by the end of the week and of course if that happens and the house in the senate will have to reconcile their two different bills and come up with the bill and then have votes again but yeah today was huge two senators on that committee voted yes and many people thought that they might vote no one was bob corker bob corker is concerned about. budget and deficits and what he's looking for is some kind of trigger that would raise the tax rates if the projected revenues fall short under the tax cuts i don't agree with that but it made him happy supposedly he got some kind of outline plan for maybe having that happen and ron johnson who was a no vote until recently he met with donald trump as did many senators they talked it out and johnson wound up voting yes his concern has passed through businesses and getting them more tax relief well there are still a lot of questions about how the proposal will actually help the middle class especially where homeownership and health care are involved so do you think the act is good as aides or does it still need to make some changes well again there's a senate bill and as the house bill the senate bill gets rid of the obamacare individual mandate the house bill does not the house bill allows for that while it gets rid of salt state and local taxes it allows ten thousand dollars for property tax deduction the senate bill does not so there are there are major differences in these bills even the corporate rate the senate bill would delay the implementation of the cut for a year the house bill to do it immediately so there's going to be a lot of getting together and sitting in a room and hashing it all out when push comes to shove. all right well now i want to ask you about the potential for a government shutdown because on tuesday president trump said he doesn't see a deal with democrats happening in order to avoid one so if they don't what sort of implications do you think it could have on both sides of the aisle well you know today nancy pelosi and chuck schumer backed out of a meeting with republican leaders mcconnell and and ryan because donald trump tweeted out that schumer and chuck don't really want. to be tough on immigration or they're not tough on crime they want higher taxes so palosi and schumer said well we're not coming to the meeting they called it a a show meeting but they do want to talk to republican leadership without trump which i think is very disrespectful of them look i think this has to happen you have to close down the government for a while isn't necessarily a terrible thing and many people say well republicans control all three branches so it shouldn't happen it'll be on their watch they'll be responsible for it the media and it seems to always blame republicans whether they are in control or not and you need sixty democrats to get through the filibuster in the senate so they're going to need eight democrats in the senate to get this done and i think eventual leave they will well in the summer trump said at a rally that he would be willing to resort to a shutdown in order to build a border wall so is that a comment you think we should take literally. i you know what i think the border wall is very important it's certainly important to the base and he ticked off a lot of republicans when he said he would trade the border wall for daca because doc was a key thing the democrats want in this you know government funding going forward for the next year fiscal year so many republicans said don't don't give them daca you know you'll get the funding for the wall some other way so that's going to be one key fight you hit it right on the head there. steve malzberg conservative commentator thanks so much for your time my pleasure time now for a quick break but stick around because when we were turn we'll sit down with mark born ten of the macy's institute to talk about a pretty critical analysis of the tax reform plan making its way through congress and as we go to break here the numbers of the closing bell. this footage is unique because there's a tribal lens on normally off limits to the public eric's allowed in because he's this is personal don't. the people here know him simply is don't to eric he's rich famous some always on the move sailing yacht some flying aircraft that. he's considered one of the best neurosurgeons in brazil. that's happening almost all. our souls are. going to be busy doing nothing is going to lose to the population because it's going to keep people as. hey everybody i'm stephen ball. test hollywood guy the suspect every proud american first of all i'm just george bush and r.v.'s to say this is my buddy max fa

steve malzberg steve thank you again for being with us you know the republicans must feel as if they've dodged a little bit of a bullet here i mean if this tax reform bill had not passed it would have hurt a heck of a lot that said i recall when the house passed the repeal and replace obamacare bill earlier this year. i think in may the president invited them all down to the rose garden at the white house they had a little party and celebrated perhaps a little bit too early so how confident are you steve that the senate will pass a bill they'll have a conference committee they'll have a consensus conference measure and that something can actually be approved by both bodies and by the end of the year well today first of all i love the optic of the president you know getting out of the car and walking up the steps and down the steps and through the halls to get to the republican caucus and then he met with them behind closed doors and it worked and it worked rather well with only thirteen republicans saying no. as for the senate i think when push comes to shove they will take this opportunity to pass a bill and then let it go to conference and see what the conference comes out with and then if there is staunchly opposed to it they have their opportunity to oppose it there ron johnson who came out yesterday and said i'm a no vote right now he says but i want to be a yes vote there are ways to work around this i just hope the list doesn't grow too long in the senate but i'm pretty confide

steve malzberg well and if you live in san francisco you know chip franklin and might think a geo radio chips dad was a cop and his mom was a district attorney steve and chip in that order if not now when should we talk about it. well we do talk about it what you're referring to of course is the president saying after a couple of these horrific shootings that day or the next day when the crowd of reporters can't wait to start shouting you know what about gun control what about this control what about limiting that what and he says now is not the time to talk about it and it's not in the immediate aftermath now people are going to say well he was willing to talk about the immigration lottery after the new york city terrorist attack two different things one is our second amendment and our second amendment rights the other is a court to it is a lottery that lets foreigners into this country many of whom should not be here so there is a difference chip what is a figure well that is a pretty wide spectrum of topics right there let's just talk about guns and gun violence in this country if you go back and look at mass shootings from one nine hundred eighty three to two thousand and thirteen we had one hundred nineteen mass shootings in the world sixty six percent were in the united states in the united states today under federal law anyone can sell a gun they only need licenses if they're doing it for profit and only three states would prevent the kind of sales of guns that were used in texas only three states prevent that require permits that's california connecticut and hawaii it's incredibly easy to get a weapon of death today and into the hands of somebody that's mentally ill or has a grudge or as steve was mentioning a terrorist it should be a lot harder to get guns and many state many countries like canada great britain japan. we should we should have more restrictive licenses the owner should be on the purpose of the person getting the gun to prove why they need it not to try to just give the guns to anybody and then go back and try to find out why they shouldn't have it here is presidential counselor kellyanne conway. she recently said this on a news network the rush to judgment particularly led by people who just see politics in trouble and everything they do it doesn't help the victims and it's disrespectful to the dead steve is that not politicizing it. well she's responding you had chuck schumer you had barack obama you had joe biden coming out after one of the previous shootings that the last one i believe just you know politicizing it from the get go so she's responding to it she wouldn't be bringing it up if the media wasn't asking about it in the democrats weren't politic
