we are expecting the first playground, expecting to break ground on the first playground, washington square in the next few months. the rec and park commission has approved concept plans for let's see, for four of the six tier one playgrounds and also west portal playground, a tier two, but has separate funding through a community opportunity fund project. and actually, also we'll begin design work on uri commons later this month. and i just wanted to end by saying one of the really nice elements of this partnership and this project is the enormous amount of community engagement we have had. so, to date on the first seven playgrounds, 56 community meetings, focus groups and neighborhood meetings. there have been a total of more than 1,000 people at these meetings. we have done 11 public surveys, and more than, gotten more than 1200 responses to these surveys, so we are deeply engaged with all of these communities in providing playgrounds and listening to what they want and providing what makes sense for each neighborhood. and so with that, i wanted to thank you, and i hope you'll rec

west portal playground is one of the most utilized playgrounds in district 7.ling playground's task force identified it as a priority for renovation and is classified as a tier two approximating playground of the lets play sf tt initiative. since 2014, my office has been working in collaboration with the recreation and park department, san francisco parks alliance and the friends of the west portal playground to continue driving this project forward. while the project has stalled at times, my office has continued to work closely with all stakeholders, particularly with the community members to raise funds and donor recognition ideas. to maintain the project's momentum. the community as represented by the friends of the west portal playground, greater west portal neighborhood association, west portal merchants association and students from west portal elementary school, totalling 160 community members are deeply invested in seat playground renovations completed on a timely schedule. it has been three years since my office first started collaborating on playgroun

the highest, fulton playground and ca borriello playground were renovated with under from the 2008 fund. you can see that 60% of the bottom parks are in the southern half of the city. you can almost draw a line across the map and that's in contrast to the top 10 scoring parks which are almost all in the northern part of the city. looking at the park scores aggregated to the supervisor district level, we see trends to the top and bottom parks, being a southern and northern distinction. we have districts number 1 with the highest average park score of 92%. followed by the districts 2 and 3, so northern crest of the city. and the bottom 2, district 11 with 83% and district 10 with 85%. just a note in that range. if you're living in district 1, your average park may be 92. 10 percentage points is the average park you would experience in district 11. so quite a big percentage point distinction there and i think that introduces a question about equity among parks which many people have mentioned today. we were able to look at specifically those parks labelled as parks serving equity zones. as

myth in your title is "the of the playground pusher." is that really a myth? guest: the reason these school zone laws came about is, if you grew up in the 1980's or lived around that time, you have this image in your head -- you can also this. the image of a shifty guy in a trenchcoat handing a kid a bag of dope through a playground fence. that was the impetus of this law. the problem is that, as far as we can tell -- we asked several former and current prosecutors, anded at a lot of cases, the people getting prosecuted for these laws are almost never actually dealing drugs to minors. there was a service done -- survey done by the massachusetts assistant attorney general done in the 2000's. worth of at a year's drug cases and found exactly one instance of a drug deal to a occurred in an apartment at night, not actually at a school. are not actually a lot of drug dealers hanging out around schools. what these laws have actually done, our investigation found, is they tend to blanket whole areas in these drug free school zones. they result in very long drug sente
