let's get right to abc7 news amy hollyfield in hayward at west "a" street and harbor avenue. >> reporter: reggie, the most urgent information i need to get out right away is for the residents that live along the royal and "a" street corridor. a shelter in place has been issued because a suspect is believed to be in that area and he is on foot. they want people to stay inside their homes. now, let me show you what happened here in this part of hayward. this is where the shooting took place. we are at west "a" and arbor. look at the motorcycle that's been knocked over. that officer was on the motorcycle and listen to what he went through. he was trying to pull over an suv that was shooting. the suv finally stopped, went in reverse, rammed the officer. somehow the motorcycle became attached to the suv. the suv went into drive, going forward, taking the motorcycle with him. somehow the officer got free. he did bring out his gun and fired several times at the suv into the windshield. they do not know whether he hit the man inside. this happened outside a retirement home, the hayward village.

amy: in the occupied west bank city of jericho, a palestinian man died thursday after he was arrested a and severely beaten y israeli soldiers. israel's military initially said they subdued 33-year-old yasin al-saradih after he attacked soldiers with a knife and attended to steal a gun. the -- attempted to steal a gun. the military later said they fired bubullets to stop al-sarah after he attacked soldiers with an iron bar. but surveillance video later emerged showing israeli soldiers kicking and bebeating the m man bebefore dragging his limp b boy away. the newspapeper haaretz reportsn autopsy showed n no bullet wouns were found on n his body, contradicting the military''s statement. back in florida, state prison officials administered a lethal cocktail of drugs to prisoners got branch thursday, stopping his heart. witnesses to the execution say branch screamed and repeatedly shouted "murderers!" as the drugs were administered. prison officials would later deny that the scream was caused by the execution drugs. meanwhile, alabama has postponed the execution of death row prisoner doyl

amy: talk about how south koreans feel about unification and also young people. >> i think it is mixed. obviously, they see what happened between east and westermany. people grew up after the crisis and they have seen their parents suffer, grew up with a lot of economic insecurity and instability. i would say there is a desire for the eventual unification of korea. i think seeing the two koreas marching together under the one korea flight. we cannot underestimate the power of that. divided byhat was cold war powers and it remains still in a state of war because there has not been a peace treaty. i think what we know, whether it is a mixed response about how koreans feel about reunification, they don't want a new korean war. and more south koreans are worried about donald trump than they are about kim jong-un. i think that the olympics is presenting a very hopeful opportunity, hopefully, it is the beginning. but a lot of this depends upon the u.s. amy: christine ahn is the founder and international coordinator of women cross dmz, a global movement of women mobilizing to end the korean war. when we come back, we go back 15 years this week to a
