let's get right to abc7 news amy hollyfield in hayward at west "a" street and harbor avenue. >> reporter: reggie, the most urgent information i need to get out right away is for the residents that live along the royal and "a" street corridor. a shelter in place has been issued because a suspect is believed to be in that area and he is on foot. they want people to stay inside their homes. now, let me show you what happened here in this part of hayward. this is where the shooting took place. we are at west "a" and arbor. look at the motorcycle that's been knocked over. that officer was on the motorcycle and listen to what he went through. he was trying to pull over an suv that was shooting. the suv finally stopped, went in reverse, rammed the officer. somehow the motorcycle became attached to the suv. the suv went into drive, going forward, taking the motorcycle with him. somehow the officer got free. he did bring out his gun and fired several times at the suv into the windshield. they do not know whether he hit the man inside. this happened outside a retirement home, the hayward village.
