my favorite on page 31 from george reidy, johnson was, quote, a man goaded by an insatiable need for public acclaim. sound familiar? given the similarities, given the similarities and character what allowed johnson to rise above his flaws? >> he was all of those things, to be sure but he was also an inveterate politician and a very good one and i think he knew how to get incredible work products out of people. that is a narrative strain we are familiar with. in the parlance today he was results driven. he had a certain burning focus and he focused on politics. and no outside interests, didn't read much. here at 300,000 words a week. and at his ranch, he would occasionally hunt, he had no interest in life outside politics so you focus yourself at intently on one thing chances are you might be good at it. a lot of this book is about the people johnson picked, he picked some extraordinary ones. harold mentioned a few of them. bill moyer, joe california who is well known to us at hunter. tell us a little bit about these key aids. >> the vantage point of jack valencia, he was 46 years old
