i never thought i wanted to write nonfiction. i started writing in high school she saw my work and said maybe you can expand on it. at that time, millennial and i'm going to put all that time in my career. i was bombarded in a good way. i came from a tightknit christian community. feminist was a bad word and meant that you wanted to overtake the man. so to be bombarded with this knowledge, this the horrific murder rates in all these things. i wanted to write something. i'm young and when i get to a certain age i want to reach up and say there's another layer to add-on. i feel like were in such a great moment for black artistic production. so i made this book and sent it out. luckily it worked out. >> over some of -- you talk about how you had to be very open and not see this back. what were some of the more difficult sections for you in terms of writing the book? >> one difficult thing to read about was an experience i had was someone of the bully. thinking about how angry she made me feel ordered how much i couldn't stand her eith
