when i committed to myself to produce this exhibit, long before i had a home for it, i realized i needed to do the research to get the stats down. and i came across an article written by the associated press and published february 21, 1968. it was published in the newspaper i worked for. i read it quickly and the hair stood up on my neck, because it chronicled the situations i photographed. during my time in hue, to a t. but what the reporter had written was far more horrific than anything i had seen. then i read it a second time slowly. and the reporter credited one eyewitness to all of the horror, and that was me. and i blocked it all. much of what i did in hue, i have the photographs to prove it, but my mind won't take me there, to many of the situations that i was in. during the battle there were many wounded, some critically. the marine in this photograph is a marine by the name of jim walsh. he was shot through both legs. years later, staff sergeant toms got a phone calll. the person says, this is jim walsh, do you remember me? he says, of course i remember you. how are you? he say
