brian stelter is joining us now live. first of all, abc has been silent thunderously silent, but we do expect them to be issuing a statement fairly soon. are they going to fire her? >> i'm standing by from a statement from abc. i don't know what it will contain. i expect it will be some sort of condemnation, but hard to imagine abc parting ways with roseanne barr because the revival of roseanne was one of the biggest shows of the year. it debuted to more than 20 million viewers. and it leveled out to 20 10 millimil million, which is a huge number. so they makes millions for abc and the network kind of knew what they were getting. she's been an outspoken promoter of conspiracy theories on her twitter account for a long time. but these particular tweets do seem to have gone even further than she had gone before by promoting these ideas that are racist and anti-semitic, she has caused a widespread outcry including within abc. so i come expect a statement shortly from the network. the big picture here, wire seeing conspiracy

brian stelter, cnn senior media correspondent and host of "reliable sources, is with us now. what? help us wrap our heads what is going on here. >> an example of the president's problem with the truth and they it's worth talking through, a lot of times we on television say he is wrong about this. he is misleading people about that. it's hard to actually prove it. here is a realliees case. let's show one of the president's tweets yesterday when he talked about the "the new york times" story he didn't like. the source of the "the new york times" story, quote, doesn't exist. here is the transcript from the briefing on thursday. a senior white house official, he was grand anonymity and all reporters told this is off camera and the person can be described as a senior white house official. there was a male white house aide who was speaking with the press. there were 50 people in the room and 200 on the phone so we know this source wasn't made up because cnn and lots of other outlets were there back to the president's tweet. you should believe real sources and not phony issues and used th

our cnn senior media correspondent, host of "reliable sources" brian stelter has been working the storyor us. brian, this is a significant development. you've got new reporting on cohen being paid a whole lot more than was first known. >> yes, it seems every day, wolf, we learn more about this deal. first, michael avenatti alleged it was a $200,000 payment from at&t to cohen over the course of four months. then at&t said, actually, it was for a full year and we were paying for, quote, unquote, insights into the trump administration. yesterday we learned that robert mueller knew about this six months ago. he already checked it out. now we're learning the payment is a lot more than originally reported. according to a source with knowledge of the matter, at&t paid a total of $600,000. that's $50,000 a month for 12 months over the course of 2017. this deal started right after inauguration day. as at&t, like a lot of other companies, was trying to figure out what the trump administration would do with regards to net neutrality regulations, the taenat&t/time warner deal and other big business

brian stelter is joining us.ou have new reporting about how abc and disney brass came to this decision? >> yes, and how quickly this was decided. a couple hours past before the announcement. right away disney and abc executives agreed they had to pull the plug. there's no way to have abc on tv without roseanne. and there was no way to keep her on the show with the messages. abc chose to hire her in the first place. that's worthy of scrutiny. there's never been a cancellation like this before. a show premiers to record rates. then it's cancelled right away. the abc ceo said you cannot control roseanne bar r, but you can decide whether to give her a show. abc thought the reward would exceed the risk. she thought she would focus on making the show great. she continued to post inappropriate sometimes unhinged messages. she would tweet about fringe conspiracy theories. a source at disney said to me this was her third or fourth flairup. even though it was the first controversy to get international attention, it was the
