that is the crash here in crockett. this has shut down the two right lanes of eastbound interstate 80 right before you get to the carquinez bridge. as you can see there you have the cars getting by in that far left lane. only and right now we have cleanup going on after an earlier big rig crash. this big rig overturned in the middle of the night and burst into flames. one person inside that truck was seriously hurt. there you see the wreckage of that rig after it was pulled away from the scene. but again, major cleanup operation following this big rig crash. now, there was a secondary crash as a result of that degree crash. so just up the road, also on eastbound 80 in the crockett area, this crash happened shortly after that first big rig accident. and we have just learned from the chp that one person was killed in that crash again to a secondary crash, a car apparently slammed into a truck in that area. and one person was taken to the hospital. and later died. so obviously, a major investigation and a major cleanup hap

it has shut down the eastbound lanes on interstate 80 and crockett. near the carquinez bridge. >> it's been such a mess this morning. ktvu's leigh martinez caught in traffic herself trying to get to the scene. leigh? >> reporter: it is a three mile backup. if you're heading eastbound on i-80, as soon as you start seeing signs for the coming sky we exit, that's when you're going to come across it. you can see that we are moving. but it is a very, very slow crawl. one mile an hour. so this is what we are told is that one lane at the far left lane, is going to be open when we start approaching the accident scene. hazmat crews have been out there because of the diesel. this all started around 1:22 am this morning. fire units responded to a crash and a fire on 80 eastbound. chp says the big rig overturned on its side and caught fire. truck driver was flown to john deere hospital. so a hazmat team has been called out. chp is also reporting a three vehicle collision that happened just before the big rig crashed. this is a second accident scene that they are

this is eastbound 80 approaching pox -- approaching pomona and toward crockett boulevard and along the long route or they wait because one lane just opened seconds ago as you are heading up toward the karkinez bridge and the skyway is closed and you cannot get into eastbound 80 from skyway but you can enter over there at pomona, the last entrance before the carquinez bridge. and then at the venetian bridge, northbound 680 is clear if that is your route toward the north bay and that is fine out of the east bay. the maze is not the problem. other problem is 880 noubd also has close -- northbound is also closed and north around 98 or heggenberger we had another crash involving a truck and a -- and a truck fire there as well. a live look from our coliseum camera shows you just before that b.a.r.t. overcrossing where the b.a.r.t. train goes over to the airport and two lanes block up and a back-up for a half mile and so that is a slower drive as well. north 880 and eastbound 80 are the pro major problems this morning. but the rest of the day is like this. very light, there is the golden gate

crockett and perkiness fire units responded to a big race -- big rig crash.for unknown reasons, the driver of the big rig lost control and hit the rubber and plastic barricades. it caught fire. the big rig was carrying cans of pineapples. the truck ended up spilling 280 gallons of diesel fuel on that roadway. chp credits a good samaritan for saving the life of the truck driver. >> he was driving behind the truck and observed the crash. he got out. checked to see if the driver was okay. when he did that, that's when the truck started to ignite, so he dragged him out of the actual cab because pretty much separated from the truck itself . and then provided cpr at that time. >> reporter: the truck driver was airlifted to jointer hospital. sees pete reported that two vehicle collision that happened just behind a closure on i-80. chp says the car slammed into the back of a stopped big rig. we saw a tow truck take those vehicles off of the freeway around 5:20 am. there were's -- wasn't so much debris out here. that is what took crews so long to clean up and reopen t
