tell the story, doug stanton. ug: the caller before that said he came home and guys wanted to hear his story about being in vietnam, which is all the difference, when you have an audience who is going to be listening. i would urge him to say today to the vietnam veterans, not to say to them to shut up, but to listen to their story and move on. we don't have to do anything with these stories. the biggest lesson i learned is that we have to acknowledge them. we can't fix the pain, but we can listen and become the audience. paul: lynn novick, final thoughts? lynn: for ken burns and myself and our colleagues who worked on the film, we had the privilege of spending 10 years listening to people tell us their stories, both in america and vietnam. one of the things that was really profound for me was that i made four trips to vietnam over the course of the project, and talking to veterans and civilians, there is a lot of unfinished business in vietnam. their country is still unreconciled about what happened during the war
