how about rick perry, you know a lot about borders, governor of texas for a long time and what do you think? >> i think you've got a good group of people sitting around the table right here. nobody can do it by themselves. federal government can't do it by themselves and the states can do it by themselves. in finding those places and actually we talked a number of times about sometimes we are in conflict, one agency of government against another agency of government in trying to find the places that we can streamline those regulations. you gave me some pretty good instructions about getting rid of regulations that cost more than they benefit, so this is one of those that we can work together and find some places, whether it's flying the drones into certain areas for some of the other things that we can do together. but i think it's important for the american people. we talked about this during the campaign and you have talked about it on a regular basis every day and it's like everything else you talk about in the campaign. you are going to get this done too. >> a lot of progress, a l

jason: one of the characters who makes a cameo is the energy secretary, rick perry.id the federal government in the recent history here in adams county? alec: it basically played very little role. i was struck by how little responsiveness there was at the state government level and the national government level to the plight of these workers and this county. there is an academic debate about whether we help people move out or invest in them, which is better to do. at a policy level, we are not having that debate at all. this is not being reckoned with. the attempts by the workers and county officials to get a response or relief washington and columbus fell on deaf ears. there have been efforts by the trump administration to stop the ansure of coal plants in emergency moratorium way, but that has not come to anything. what struck me is that the most powerful moment for these to ars was when one went state senator who represents their district, and they said, we need help for our schools. the state senator said the best thing for you to do is just to move. jason: up ne

rick perry is a great guy but where is the press corps covering things that are happening there?rson, where is he? >> dana: you hear stuff about ben carson, it's usually personal or ethical. not really about policy. there is stuff happening all over the government that could be covered more or that should be more transparent to the white house press corps knows the best way to get on air to cover something from the white house. there is a problem there. i don't know if nick kristof got the right answer but that's one way to expose other things within the government. not just in the trump administration but all government should be answerable to the people, and it's not always happening at the white house. >> kimberly: jesse, we talked about this before. polls show that media dedicates most of their airtime, 91% of it to president trump being negative coverage. they are obsessed with putting out this really kind of negative narrative constantly about what he's doing despite whatever the accomplish with might be. >> jesse: yes. they are not covering trump. they are trying to destro

[laughter] anyway, next day the head of the book festival called me and said larry, the governor's office is demanding an apology. really? it was a joke. i know that, i know that, but they say they will not allow the capital to be used for future book festivals if you don't apologize at. wow. political pressure, so i wrote here he dear governor perry and i'm so and then i got this letter back saying he had long planned helping raise money for crippled children and etc. and signed it prayerfully, rick. even worse he did a dog and pony show for ivanka, jared and rick perry. mean, you have personally called out the president for some of the things that are racist. some of the things he says. how do you respond to this criticism? >> well, listen, i think this is part of the problem. we are in a situation now where, you know, donald trump has offended so many people so often, you call him out, i call him out, and now we've gotten to a point where we are so anti-trump that we almost got tricked into being anti-ourselves. we have always as progressives and democrats stood up for people behind bars, people who are addicted, convicted. you mean to tell me i'm going to have donald trump not just running the white house but running my house and my agenda, that i can't defend prisoners? donald trump has 200,000 federal prisoners in the palm of his hand. he and sessions can do what they want to. if congress wants to tell sessions and trump here is a better way to deal with those folks, give them a pathway home, let them earn their way home by becoming model prisone

that's rick perry speaking right now.ghtly across the board. mortgage rates, they're the highest level in 7 years, can you believe in 4.6% on the 30-year and people are rushing to buy homes before rates go even higher, the property man is with us, that would be bob. am i right in saying that rates now 4.6%, 30 year fiction s there a rush of people to lock in the low rate while they can? >> certainly, but i think we are spoiled as you know and i know years ago what it was like carter it was 12%, great rates if for the last years, really, really good rates. people are obviously a little alarmed by this because maybe they'll go up, so, yeah, there's a rush to it but what i have found, stuart, honestly, there's a percentage of population that truly understands interest rates and is concern. there's the other lagger percentage of population that only cares about if the payment sticks within their budget regardless of the interest rates. stuart: my problem is that investments in real estate are worth less these days because of
