no surprise here that we're already seeing watches and warnings for flooding across portions of south florida into central florida and then up along the gulf coast because eventually this is going to run right through the heart of the gulf of mexico and eventually make landfall along the gulf coast. it includes several states here as we're including the whole area. the heaviest rain typically does fall on the right or the eastern side of these so you start to see right through portions of florida and you get these yellow and orange colors that's suggesting anywhere from 5 to 6 inches of rain, enough to cause flooding, widespread across the entire southeast at least a couple of inches of rain and then where you talk about this making landfall, perhaps there getting up to 10 inches of rain in isolated areas maybe even more. this could be a real rain maker. that's going to be the biggest concern with this particular system. again, as of right now, completely disorganized, but as i run through this, and i will get out of the way, the time stamp, pay attention there, we run through overnight tonig

this will be a big rain maker for south florida, central florida, and even sections of southern alabamaern panhandle could see five to seven inches of rain. so that's a flood concern. the other concern, as it gets closer to the coast it will bring water inland. we call that storm surge. the best way to think about storm surge, imagine you're sitting in the bathtub and sloshing the water toward the edge. the harder you slosh, the more water is going to go over the edge. it all depends on how much water will pile up, how strong this storm gets. a 65-mile-an-hour storm could give a storm surge of two to four feet. and that will stretch all the way from eastern sections of louisiana back to just north of tampa. that's the storm surge we're talking about. so that's a concern. four feet of water, that's just about to my waist, i'm about 6 feet tall. fred, as you mentioned, as we head into the holiday weekend, and a week before hurricane season, still the month of may, nobody told alberto about the calendar. he decided to come early. >> right, this is bad timing. all right, very alarming nonet

still portions of south florida as we are seeing revie rain moving across that region. he florida panhandle up into the areas of mississippi, towards portion of north georgia. tennessee and now including the carolinas. it's a large area that's seeing at least some rain from this system and will continue to see so. everything you are seeing in the light greens to the dark greens. that's an inch to two inches of rain. very widespread. areas talking about the yellows the oranges getting up to 4 to 6 inches. you start to see some of these reds and this will be where landfall is stretching across portions of the panhandle up into mississippi. those are spots where you could sees a much as 8 to 12-inch of total rain. obviously talking about flooding when you see thatch possible rain. this is your hour-by hour first alert forecast. pay attention to the time stamp in the corner. when will this be making landfall right around lunchtime or early afternoon hours. that's when the winds will be strongest and rains toughest right along the coast here, paying attention to this in the m
