the president referenced dan coats, not always a household name in this discussion, but dan coats is the current director of national intelligence. he had been an indiana senator. think mike pence, close to the vice president, was ready to retire, was pulled out of retirement for this job. he puts out a statement today that is really worth reading over. i'll only give you a part of it. we have been clear in our assessments of russian meddling in the 2016 election and they're ongoing, key word here, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy and we will continue to provide, another key word here, unvarnished information to the president. that it is pervasive work on behalf of russia and he will and others in the intelligence community give the president the best information they have for him to evaluate. what we saw today is the president did evaluate that information and he was willing to put vladimir putin's word and that of all the u.s. intelligence on an even sort of like he's an outside observer. i don't know which one to believe. it's his job to make a decision which one to be
