jeff paul live in thailand. remote area of thailand, we just got here a while ago, you can hear the generators, that's because we have generators operating as you see pumping water from deep inside the cave where those 12 boys and coach are trapped. earlier today unfortunately there were some heavy rains. the governor spoke recently saying that they cannot -- the time is basically past for them to try to find an ideal time of when to rescue the kids, that it has to happen as soon as they can. two options of getting the kids and their coach to safety. one of them they could try to figure out a way to drill in and extract the boys out from where they are, the other thing would be to use it buddy system, to use professal -- professional divers, try to get them course on how to do this. keep in mind, julie, it is 5 to 6 hours one way in where the team is and 5 to 6 hours out, lots of dangers in getting kids and coach to safety. >> jeff, thank you very much. connell: remarkable story in thailand. state of emergency t

our own jeff paul joins us now from los angeles ricky family together rally is taking place this afternoonlive, the rally getting underway near downtown los angeles. organizers here are expecting thousands of people back into this park and protest the separation of families. and to bring attention to the ongoing process to get the families back together but they are reacting to comments a federal judge in san diego made regarding the unification process. during a court hearing on friday, judge said in part quote -- some of the activists we spoke with the separations only highlighted that there are ongoing immigration problems. they say there's still need to be major issues even with the families being reunited. >> they need to work harder and to think of a way that we can solve this crisis and not just say all the families are together and the problem is solved. reporter: that rally is about to get underway after a few speakers they will hit the streets and marched through the road and helping organizers will bring attention to the community that this is an ongoing issue and hoping that it

. >> bill: jeff paul reporting live in redding, california. the fire only 5% contained over the weekend. how is it now? >> we're just learning that the carr fire here in the redding area is at 17% containment. firefighters feel like they have a better grasp on the fire. the devastation caused by the fire is long lasting. you can see this was one family's home. there was a garage back there presumably an area for a boat and right up front of the house that was a truck. all of this happening to many other homes hard hit in this neighborhood that are now charred and reduced to ash. just over the weekend the fire doubled in size and nearly at 100,000 acres. the carr fire has forced nearly 50,000 people from their homes. many of these folks wondering what they'll find when they finally return home. >> everything is in our car. you just don't know. it has been uncertainty all the time. we don't know exactly when we'll have to leave again. we're staying across town and we're checking on our house making sure it's okay and checking on neighbors. >> la

but first, jeff paul on the ground with the latest.l us that they are preparing for conditions to get worse. so for the creston fire where we are at is 70 percent contained but in the last hour so the wind has really started to pick up and as you take a look to the side of me, you can see the giant plumes of smoke coming from that mountain. that is what crews are worried about. they've been out here hitting the spire hard. helicopters are flying overhead as they dump water, hoping to douse the remaining flames. for the north in redding california, this fire remains a huge threat. in fact, a few minutes ago cal fire issued a new round of even more evacuations. it is on top of the thousands and thousands who already have been ordered to evacuate. there's a bulldozer operator, firefighter and some families are reporting their missing loved ones. and for terms of damage, 80,000 acres and it is only five percent contained. many residents in the area are scrambling to get to safety leaving behind everything they own. >> through a few things

eric: jeff paul is live in idyllwild, california. you can see it has been raging. what is going on right now? reporter: authorities just updated us on the most devastating wildfire that is burning here in california. the tell us the car fire is showing no son of showing dell. they said conditions are only getting worse and the wind remains very strong. 80,000 acres burned so far with only five percent containment. the fire has destroyed 500 structures and 5000 are being threatened. they cinema how many fires they fought in the past, federal firefighters even saying they've never seen anything quite like this fire. >> are spoken to folks that have much more experience and have been going through this from year-to-year. every single person i've talked to so far has made mention that i don't know why it's doing what it's doing. uphill, downhill. even if it doesn't have a strong wind, it is burning as if it has a wind or a strong 60 mile an hour 70 mile an hour wind. reporter: authorities also tell us they received dozens of missing persons reports when asked specifica

jeff paul is live in thailand with more. jeff, what are you hearing about plans for a rescue?ial news that a rescue is underway, but what i can tell you is that the situation out here has definitely changed a little bit as you take a look off to the side of us, you can see some of these soldiers are walking through and this green fence, this wasn't here a day ago. behind that, that's where they have been doing a lot of the groundwork to go inside the cave. just beyond there, you can see some of those guys with hats on and lights. that's the first we have seen today of people going inside appearing to get ready for some sort of work for the day. the other thing that we should mention is the weather. the weather is definitely factor out here. earlier this morning the rain was coming down pretty hard. it's slowed down a little bit. they have been pumping water a little bit further down the road. we don't know how effective that is. it is of course something that could possibly help this team and this coach that's in there right now and help crews as they try to get them to safety

jeff paul is in thailand where that entire nation seems to be celebrating. >> it's officially over, the medic and three time navy seals who stayed with 12 trapped boys have returned to the surface, more than two weeks after the team got stuck in a cave more than 2 miles underground forcing the seals to bring them out one by one in a dangerous six hour journey. the greatest thing you have to worry about is oxygen and keeping that calm as they snake through that maze of that cave system. >> making things more difficult, none of the group had diving experience and most could not swim. they might have been given tranquilizers and officials say that would have been counter productive but they were given antianxiety medicine. it is something to make them not excited or stressed. the military sent over 1,000 people to get the boys and their coach out. they are dismantling equipment and packing up supplies, wrapping up an effort that captured the world's attention. >> we are so happy all 13 have left. >> it was a rollercoaster of emotions. everybody will feel relieved. >> the rescue finished up
