and they say that they have made great progress on the river fire, west of clear lake. but if you pan over to the east side, you're not going to see hardly anything. the smoke since the sun came up has taken over the lake again. it is very heavy smoketownconditions again. so the ranch fire burning on the east side this is a bigger fire and this is the one that is so much more difficult for the firefighters to tackle. it is burning in the national forest because the river fire is looking good. they're going to mobilize some crews on the west side now to the east side to tackle this ranch fire. so sunday afternoon, the lower humidity and the high wind really cause the fire to intensify and push further southeast and north. the complex fire is two fires, the river fire and the ranch fire burning in separate directions on both side of clear lake. a burnout operation proved successful. but the ranch fire continues to burn north and south east. the terrain makes it difficult for the firefighters to get in front and fight the fire. the concern is the weather that happen in the

almost all around clear lake is covered in heavy smoke and the pollution is terrible. experts for air quality were out there yesterday taking a look at the particles in the air and they said, basically, the entire clear lake community is breathing in like 40 years of pollution. that's how bad it is. they are delaying the start of the school year for a couple of days just because of the air quality and schools don't have the air filtration systems to keep the kids safe. in ukiah with ktvu fox 2 news. >>> we have an update on the car fire in shasta and trinity counties. it is 47% contained but has burned more than 172,000 acres. 1000 homes have been destroyed in and around redding. there are evacuations in effect in the areas of lewiston, french gulch, and whiskeytown northwest of reading. the national forest service says it continues to make progress against the ferguson fire in yosemite. that is now 43% contained but has burned 148 mi.2. to give you an idea, that is an area times the size of san francisco. it started on july 13 just outside yosemite national park. some
