any asylum seeker is arriving in bavaria i'm not going to go through the entire asylum application process under one roof basically say their registration at the cation and then the final decision as to whether they'll be granted asylum or deported well. will take place under this one roof say these seven senses in bavaria have room for about fifteen hundred asylum seekers each in total and turtle and so there isn't actually any plans at the moment to push this through into any of germany's other states but there is some some interest from a couple of them but my real plans to push this through kate andrews, is a news editor at the institute of economic affairs joins us now from london. kate, thanks for joining us to talk about this. let's reiterate again what we had on that last report, 60 cia officials signing onto the brennan security clearance. all of us believe they write it is critical to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure, but we believe equally strongly that former government officials had the right to express their unclassified views on what they see as critical national security issues without fear of being punished for doing so. we should point out these officials served under republican and democrat administrations. is the president stepping into a minefield here? >> thanks for having me, natalie. i think it's really important to separate two issues here. the first is whether or not we can talk about a very important topic, which is whether or not in certain circumstances security clearance should be revoked and is appropriate to be revoked. i see circumstances in which it is. few look at the 13 guidelines of which you can revoke somebody's security clearance. they include things like outside issues, outside activities, specifically, also financial contributions that they might be getting from elsewhere. if someone has decided to go on the public speaking cirque or go on, get paid by national television to get paid for their views. i think they should question their security clearance we have to separate that from what donald trump is actually doing. >> what about dozens an dozens of former officials saying this is not about speaker fees. this is not about getting paid. this is about the president using the white house to try to stop criticism of him? >> well, exactly. and that is the second point. >> that is why donald trump is actually revehicleing security clean, which is hugely inappropriate and problematic. he's doing this as a political tacking the to go over his political opponents. that should not be at all when discussing the security clearance i think criticism of the president is extremely important. i don't want that to become a reason we can't discuss security clearance overall. i do fear that is happening a bit here. when somebody does decide they no longer want to sit as a civil servant in the uk there are strict rules of what you can say about the civil servant. that's true in the u.s., you are not supposed to be political either. if they want to take speaker fees to do so, that's absolutely fine. then we can question whether it's appropriate. it's clear especially since this issue with bruce orr the president is not interested if following the rules or guidelines either. he is going after people for political sport. >> that is completely an proept or wrong -- inappropriate or wrong. >> the president thinks his actions on the russia investigation, no proof of that let's listen again to the former cia chief brennan on the president's move. >> i think he's out of control. he is -- has the steering wheel of the american vehicle in his hands and he's veering wildly right now. he's trying to preserve and protect himself. so what more demonstration do you want? when things get really, really bad, i'm glad that if his revoke my security clearance will wake people up. >> clearly brennan may get more attention about his comments now because of his action. so is this move by president trump going to backfire? >> you know, that's really hard to say. president trump is always playing to his base. it seems regardless of what happens or the hugely questionable or downright, let's be honest racist things he sometimes says, it hasn't seemed to sway his base so much. it's hard to say the people that may show up in november to vote locally and for local representatives, it's hard to know. what is clear is that there is this huge standoff now between officials and the president of the united states, sometimes i wonder how many people are actually tuning into this debate. do they understand the connections? kate brady she's down at our parliamentary studios and kate let's start by talking about. some of our viewers i'm sure will remember he's the german suppressions soccer player of turkish descent resigned from the german national squad after the world cup in in his resignation statement he said he was the target of discrimination by not just german soccer officials but media outlets as well the case has attracted massive media attention how has story shaped the discussion about racism here in germany. well those old resignation has indeed got germany talking by society between immigrants people with migration backgrounds and also among so-called germans and then on top of that as well you even hearing from politicians saying that this is an issue which needs to be addressed we've heard from the justice minister and from the foreign minister saying that this is a responsibility of all of german society to address this issue and this is even spread on to social media as a result of resignation there was a campaign there hash tag me too which refers to the idea of having two hearts two identities and many people that have since been sharing their experiences of everyday racism in germany so this is clearly a big topic right now so the new poll shows about two thirds of germans feel racism is a problem in this country can you give us some context for that figure does it tell us whether things are getting better or worse. it isn't a case of whether things of got better or worse more of a fact that the issue of racism in germany never really went away but we've just seen that in recent years this certain groups particularly if you think of the xenophobia can come to islam you from pick either or even the far right a.f. dale tentative from germany posse why herring's that in language and since that behavior from them with very strong racist undertones even overtones if you will which is making certain behavior have become much more socially acceptable again in germany but of course at the same time with some of the recent events like the resignation all. this is also bringing they say issue of racism back into the attention of germans now resignation also sparked a debate about migrant integration survey respondents were asked how well they thought migrants had integrated into german society we're going to show you a couple of graphics now the first question asked in this poll was how well integrated migrants who have been are who been living in germany for many years now sixty two percent of respondents thought those migrants ones who have been here for many years are well integrated or very well integrated thirty three percent thought they're poorly integrated. now let's take a look at newly arrived migrants and what people think about them whether they think they're well well integrated and it turns out that only twenty eight percent of germans think that newly arrived immigrants are well integrated sixty eight percent think they are poorly integrated. what does that discrepancy tell us aside from the fact that migrants who've been here longer have had more chance to integrate. well it certainly doesn't bode well for new arrivals in germany sorry they were thinking about the migrants who arrive since about two thousand and fifteen at the height of what became known as the refugee crisis germany completely failed in reaching its integration targets last year so there's of courses which enable people arriving in germany who saw asylum refugees to apply to german courses and learn about german cultural customs and society and even germany's legal system and they completely missed out on those targets and then on top of that we're now seeing new migration policy measures just early as a suite down in bavaria for example down there they've opened up these new centers which are holding centers of facilities even where asylum seekers will stay while the application is being processed but there is concern that keeping asylum seekers in this one area is going to hinder integration as this process can sometimes take up to eighteen months which could be a very long time asylum seekers hoping to integrate and have kate bolduan starts now. >>> hello, everyone. i'm kate bolduan. new worries in the white house over an old problem. what exactly happened behind closed doors in it trump tower in june of 2016 when top trump campaign officials sat down with russians, including one linked to the kremlin with the promise of dirt on hillary clinton? what's old is new again, folks. not only what happened is key, but who knew about the meeting and when and why the white house story keeps changing. remember, this was don junior last summer. >> a lot of people want to know this about your father. do you tell your father anything about this? >> no. it was such a nothing. there was nothing to tell. >> but there sure was a lot more than nothing to tell. otherwise, why has the white house and the president's lawyers tied themselves up into knots over trying to explain this away? sources tell cnn that the president is now increasingly worried about the legal risk to his some, don, junior, over that infamous meeting. but the president going on the attack, tweeting out that it was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all of the time in politics. and it went nowhere. i did not know about it, tweets the president. so simple. yet not at all. in july of 2017, don, junior, told the "new york times" this in part. we primarily discussed a program about the adoption of russian children. misleading at best. but that storyline that the meeting was about russian adoptions -- remember, remain the white house's talking point for a while. >> there was nothing, as far as we know, that would lead anyone to believe that there was anything, except for adoption and the ma engiimagini act. >> let's focus on what the president was aware of, nothing. was not aware of the meeting, did not attend the meeting and was only informed about the e-mails very recently by his counsel. >> it turns out, it's simply not true by the president's own admission. in a letter to special counsel, robert mueller, quote, the president dictated a short but accurate response to the "new york times" article on behalf of his son. to that the president's attorney says, now, he made a mistake and it happens. >> i had bad information at that time. i made a mistake in my statement. i talked about that before. that happens when you have cases like this. i think it's very important to point out that in a situation like this, you have over time facts develop. that's what investigations do. >> we've hashed, rehashed, hashed and rehashed again this meeting. why is this moment different? why is the president now so concerned? cnn's kate lyitlan collins must some answers for us. kaitlan, what are you hearing about this today? >> so far, kate, nothing from the white house on this today, even though this goes against what several of the president's own spokesmen have said for months now. instead, the white house has established a photo travel lid, which means we don't expect to see the president for the rest of the day, even though he does have a dinner with supporters on his schedule here in new jersey tonight. but this tweet from the president over the weekend, kate, is the most explicit acknowledgment from the president that that meeting was not about russian adoptions, but instead about getting dirt on the president's opponent, hillary clinton. now that goes against what the president's own son, his press secretary, and his legal team have said for months. and even the president himself, since he was the one who dictated that initial misleading statement from donald trump jr. that was put out last summer after the "
