nbc bay area's sergio quintana spoke with neighbors. >> reporter: through much of the evening, friends of the two teenage girls killed in the fire brought flowers to a small memorial. in a video, you can see her twin. sarah is devastated they're gone. >> they make me feel like -- like they were people i really counted on. >> they were very happy all the time, and everyone really loved them. no one really hated them. i really loved them too. >> reporter: they were sophomores at high school. police say a fire broke out at their house at 2:45 in the morning. the 14-year-old girls were killed. a woman who friends say is their mother died at the hospital. an 11-year-old girl survived. this is video shot by a neighbor who did not want to be identified. she says she heard a heated argument at the house a few nights ago. >> he was pretty much in a rage.

in lake port, sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. >>> as those fires continue to grow, more help is on its way from the bay area. san francisco fire department sent one of its mass casualty buses to clear lake. three medics are on board and they plan to help people swa evacuate. that bus is described as a hospital on supplies to treat up to 24 people in the event of a major emergency. >>> new information tonight about a fire in pittsburg. police say an arsonist is responsible. we first brought you this story learned officers arrested a homeless man who admitted to burning trash in a field near third and east harbor in pittsburg. flames spread to a nearby pallet yard, destroying a forklift, bringing down power lines. >>. >> a mobile home trailer burned in san jose and one of our cameras captured all of this dark, black smoke. it started at a mobile home park on south 34th street next to 101 and 280. four people are out of their home. thankfully no one was hurt. the cause described at this point as an accident. >>> have you seen this man? bart police say he stabbed two people in oakland

nbc bay area's sergio quintana joins us at the tesla factory with the very latest. sergio, what happened? >> reporter: well, it did take firefighters only about 45 minutes to get most of the fire out. but there is still some fires that are smoldering within very tightly packed bails of boxes. in video shot by a factory employee you can see the fire burning near a large tent. according to the fremont fire department the tent covers the factory's cardboard recycling area. >> recycling area and a bailer was on fire, and it was threatening a couple of other out buildings. the situation was complicated because power lines in the area had also caught fire along with the power pole. >> reporter: from nbc bay area sky ranger you can see what appears to be large boxes burning. that was the biggest challenge. crews brought in a backshow to help. >> the excavator's helping pull these bails apart so we can get the water into and amongst the cardboard. once the fire gets in a bail of cardboard it's actually pretty hard. it needs to be broken apart. >> reporter: this is not the fi

nbc bay area's sergio quintana arrived on scene just moments ago. he joins us live. sergio? >> reporter: you can see at this point it's mostly a whole lot of smoke. there is still quite a lot of smoldering at this fire. as you mentioned just a little bit earlier, the fire has been extinguished. it was quickly contained and then extinguished. they sent a whole lot of resources out here. at we know is that this fire started in some box areas, piles of boxes that are actually really close to the factory itself, the factory building itself and then also the test track. from there it went on to some other structure and then continued on to a grassy area. at this point, there is a whole lot of fire crews that are still here. as you mentioned a little bit earlier as well, investigators are here as well now trying to determine exactly how this started. but for the most part at this point, it is under control. it has been extinguished. right now there are employees of the factory who we can see driving off. this seems to be at a parking lot right between the -- the fire itself seems

reporting live along clear lake, i'm sergio quintana. >> let's head further north. let's talk about redding. it was one of the most terrifying scenes from the deadly carr fire. this fiery vortex that barrelled toward redding last week, but tonight we're learning according to the national weather service the winds -- the vortex winds reached an unprecedented 143 miles per hour, making it the most intense tornado-like feature in california history. i want to show you a closer look where the carr fire is burning today. it is outside of redding. the active fire fight is happening on the western side of the fire. on the east side, people are finally getting to go home. now, people who live in the lake redding estates neighborhood were able to get back in today. unfortunately, some entire blocks wiped out. only garage doors and brick laws left standing. >> i mean for me it is like a mix of a lot of emotions. it is like i'm super thankful but i'm also like grieved in my heart who did lose their houses, like that i know right down the street. >> it was amazing the effect of

"john lee cowell" could face the death penalty or life in prison. today, the alameda county district attorney )s office addd a "special circumstance" to the charges saying the murder appears intentional. wilson was stabbed to death at the macarathur station, last month. cowell faces multiple charges, along with an attempted murder charge for stabbing her sister, who survived. it )s a lawsuit that could set a precedent. the santa clara county fire department is suing verizon for slowing down its internet service. the fire department says veriozn )s decision -- could have cost lives. while fighting the mendocino complex fire, freifighters noticed their internet connectiopn -- suddenly got much slower. it )s turns out -- verizon had throttled their data plan. firefighters say they had to improvise in the fire zone to try to communicate with each other and the public. today, verizon sent us this statement, admitting it made a mistake... and

we begin with sergio quintana. rgio, update us on what you know. >> reporter: well, that video you were showing was where we were for a good part of the afternoon. i want to show you where it was burning. that is the river fire. the smoke has come down a little bit because the temperatures have dropped. but the fire was burning just a couple miles that way for much of the afternoon. we watched as crews threw everything they had at this fire. one of the biggest assets they brought in, the jumbo jet fire retardant bomber. by air and on the ground, crews did everything possible to protect homes on scotts valley road. we talked with one man who, as the fire advanced, he continued to clear out brush with his tractor. the fire was burning over the ridge from his house. are you concerned it's going to jump anytime soon? >> no. no. i think they've got it pretty well under control. i'm a fireman myself. so, i'll put the gear on when it comes time. >> reporter: he did have his fire gear nearby. a couple miles down scotts vall

nbc bay area sergio quintana live in the community of lucerne, one of the communities evacuated today reporter: and i could tell you, you could see right now there are a whole lot of trucks moving south of that is because the ranch by winds. i could also tell you this area was evacuated a little bit earlier today. but there is a whole lot more to -- a whole lot more activity to try to clear out the people who didn't leave. hotshot crews in the mendocino national forest set back fires to try to cut off the ranch fire. it is burning in remote parts of the forest but new evacuations were ordered because high winds are forecasted here. the evacuation seemed a bit hectic. >> we get down there by glenn haven and there is a traffic jam. people being stupid. >> reporter: cory moore and his family decided to go back home and watched as the smoke plumes inched closer and closer from the ranch fire. lucerne and several other community as long the northeastern shore of clear lake are part of the evacuation. >> this area is under a red flag warning. which means the weather conditions including win

sergio quintana talked with the family tonight. he's live in santa rosa for us with the story. sergio? >> reporter: when 5-year-old brooke adams walks into school, she's going to be setting precedent. she's going to be one of the first students in the country and the first student in california to be allowed to be given medical marijuana at school. when she was just an infant, brooke adams was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy. >> it gives her seizures that don't stop very easily. >> reporter: her seizures would last for half an hour or longer and paramedics would often have to to be called. >> behavioral issues, sleep deprived. i mean different things that aren't good for her. >> reporter: when brooke was a little more than a year old, she was issued a medical marijuana card. her parents say the daily cbd oil she uses and the emergency thc oil are very effective. she now has fewer and fewer seizures, and they only last three to four minutes. >> with the medicine, she pretty much takes a nap and then she's back to normal. >> reporter: medical marijuana and recreational mari
