gary chang, senior program manager with sfmta. supporting sustainable zero emission revenue fleet. indeed, we are the largesti operation of the trolley fleet. thank you to the board support, sfmta has replaced over 90% of our older diesel fleet with cleaner and more efficient electric hybrid vehicles. for the last production of this hybrid order, sfmta incorporates the electric vehicle, the hybrid vehicles with a higher battery capacity that allows for the vehicle to travel significant distance on battery power alone. what that means is, that distance will be traveled strictly on battery and with the engines shut off. with the increased battery capacity that allows stm to run a test program. it will turn off and turn on the engines automatically. the item in front of you seeking for your approval is to hybrid contract number 4, that includes all the necessary equipment to be added onto the vehicle to enable this green zone program. there are also other changes we have incorporated during the production of the vehicles. let me list

again the sfmta said the red paint doesn't speed up the busses. the federal government required reports twice a year on the status of the red lane experiment. they never sent a report to them either. this red coloring is an experiment still. the federal government has given the green light for the sfmta to expand or the city, the state has not. so that remains to be seen. if they stop it, you will have to clean it up. the cost of the run from gough to stanyan is over $2 million to paint the lanes red. that would buy at least four more busses, i think maybe only two if they are a hybrid or electric bus. these comments, even from an sf mta employee said this is a fabrication, you can look it up, it's a fact. i would recommend waiting to vote because there are going to be lawsuits filed from all the misinformation. if the sfmta really wanted those red lanes they would have conducted the studies like they were supposed to. they didn't even do a double parking study. they never did it yet they told the state they would. thanks. >> chair c. brinkman: th

i'm with the transit planning group at sfmta. i would like to share an updated proposal on 17th at taraval, near the safeway on that street. i think most of you are familiar with the project at this point. to refresh everyone's memory, it's a broader state of repair that will replace all the track and utility on taraval street and improve safety and reliability for the 33,000 daily riders. as you will recall, taraval is a high-injury street for pedestrians. part of the 12% of streets in san francisco, where over 70% of all collisions occur. half the people injured were stepping off a muni train in traffic when a vehicle failed to yield. it was a unique condition, where people were stepping off into traffic. we've worked extensively with the community to develop a proposal to meet the transit and reliability goals. after a year of extensive outreach, the m.t.a. board approved the project in september, 2016. the key developments were improving safety for people on trains, transit stop changes to improve transit-only lanes that allo
