so this is looking at the transportation sector, so transportation alone is 46% of our emissions, and so that's a huge amount of co2 emissions coming out of the transportation sector. the red on this chart is vehicles. so while b.a.r.t. is about 5%, caltrain is about 2%, really what we're going to have to do is tackle cars and trucks. so in order to tackle the car part of cars and trucks, we need to get pea people out of their cars. and in fact, our department, the department of the environment works very hard on this issue. we are a small but mighty team in the commission on the environment. we support our agencies in another wonky term which is called transportation demand management, so transportation demand, we're managing the demand for transportation and hoping to do mode shift. so you're going to hear tonight about how we do mode shift, how we get people out of their cars. as we heard in one of the awards, one way you get people out of their car social security to make them feel safe. so we're lucky to have wonderful partners. the department of the environment, this is a very s

much more than transportation. from a transportation standpoi standpoint, this facility on the start of operations is a game changer for our city and for our region. the ability for people to get in and out of our downtown and particularly for those coming from the east bay, will be a significantly better and more pleasant experience. that is exactly what we should be doing. that is of course, as we heard, the first phase pick the next phase, when we have below us the normal -- the northern terminus of california high-speed rail and of caltrain, that will be yet another game changer for people going to end from downtown san francisco and to the peninsula, to san jose and on to los angeles. i guess, eventually to san diego and to vancouver, as well. i guess that is phase four and five. i was fortunate to be able to join the board of directors of the tjpa in 2011, along with supervisor kim. it has been amazing to see this facility come from both visions that maria spoke about, too than the architectural renderings th

next item, advanced transportation and technology deployment. once again, the grant as reported, sfmta and sfcta have been awarded $10.99 million. of that total, $5 million is being utilized by timma and will support the toll system design and implementation. $300,000 will support the piloting of an autonomous circulator shuttle on the island. at its june 29, timma meeting, we provided an update on grant award and are ready to move forward with utilization of of funds and are excited to that opportunity. related to that, staff will speak at the upcoming automated vehicle symposium scheduled for july 9-12. the annual symposium is organized by the national transportation research board and so hes yugs for unmanned vehicle systems international. on the project delivery front, as it relates to construction here, there are numerous construction projects that are just starting right now on yerba buena island. let's talk first about what was recently completed. as you all know, the efforts that we led the i-80 westbound on and off ramps is complete. al

beaulieu, transportation planner, san francisco county transportation authority. >> so in june of this year, san francisco voters voted to put in place regional measure three, and that raises tolls in regional state owned bridges. when i first heard this, i thought what is the difference between a regional measure and a proposition? they're all on the ballot together. what i didn't realize was how rare regional measures are. so to give you some context, regional measure two was approved by voters in 2004. regional measure one was back in 1988. so these are not that common, and they are way that's we address -- and they are ways that we address goals in money for transportation infrastructure, but they are a real statement of the priority of what the region is thinking when they decide to put this on a ballot because we know how many propositions they are on every year on every ballot. so this regional measure is something to pay attention to. and because it is so rare, and because it is so recent, we thought it would be very helpful to help us to understand what's in store for san fran

improvements, both pedestrian, bicycle, water, transportation, as well as land transportation and public transit and road ways, to -- how to make those sidewalk pedestrian spaces delightful and improved for public access and open space enjoyment. how to improve the connections and the safety of crossings and create spaces for each of those modes to coexist together in an integral way, and to respond to the city's complete streets and vision zero policies, which are really aimed at improving public safety and pedestrian safety in particular along the waterfront and the embarcadero. we also -- on the walking tours, we went along the north beach and south beach areas. i should have mentioned that primarily because those are the districts that have the embarcadero historic district facilities. and we did talk about the request for interest to try and invite ideas about public oriented use opportunities for those piers. and in the court of going through the south beach area, we also spent time looking at pier 3032. pier 3032 is one of the few piers that is not within the embarcadero historic
