we in the department of defense are keenly aware that not just society but the department of defense needs that access to reliable power. and as it's needed it's also a vulnerability. secretary of defense released national defense strategy earlier this year, 20 team, everybody wants to see where we're going with power needs to be the national defense strategy. strategy. there's a couple key elements that are kind of the efforts of my stuff and also want to introduce by deputy secretary of defense leases in the audience, guiding as a politico with energy innovation in future. look at the national defense strategies come to think standup. the acknowledgment of the homeland is no longer a sanctuary and that we expect any type in the future and adversary with intent to disrupt our ability to conduct missions through either attacking or damaging our commercial power grid. we must be prepared for that. the second item is if you look across all the emerging technologies, obvious technologies in another way. not just to protect her grid but look at the technology we need to protect our nation

the 2,100 we have right now are from the state national guard sanctioned by the department of defense to assist federal enforcement of laws, but not to be directly involved. these other troops will likely be active duty troops, so they are already federalized in a sense. but they cannot enforce u.s. law. they are prohibited from doing that. what they can do is similar to what the national guard under the auspices of the governor, is engineers, medical support, logistics support in general to assist the bordered patrol so they are not performing those duties, particularly when it comes to dealing with large groups of people. that will be the focus. blake: is that the right use of military forces since they have restrikes on them to send the military down there to help out? >> i don't think we have much choice. if the president made the decision he doesn't want illegal entry to take place on our border, this would exceed the ability of state place. i think this is the beginning. i think there will be considerably more troops. blake: how many? >> i don't know because i don't know the sca
